Chancellor's Scholarship

Yes, I would agree with Bluejay. Son passed on the application process for Forbes (didn't want to write another essay) and is happily living at Towers. The food supply in the basement is a major plus (Taco Bell, Market Central etc.) especially during the cold weather and his penchant for late night meal runs.

i stayed at Forbes this summer. It's really not that far from the towers AND it's great for exercise!! i loved the proximity to dave & andy's and rite aid

Hey guys,

SAT: 1460/1600
GPA: 3.8/4.0
EC: Varsity Track (Pole Vault- top in state)
Good Community Service
I play a lot of music (saxophone, piano, violin)
Recs: I did not see the recs, but I assume they're alright?
Essays: idk, I really like Philosophy, so I enjoyed writing them.

Yeah, so I have no idea what constitutes an invitation for an interview...Did most of you guys get Full Tuition Scholarships?

I'm from Rhode Island, btw.

Good luck!

akarn, I'm pretty sure most of the students who are invited to compete for the chancellors scholarship did get a full tuition scholarship already.

Son just received an email stating that the school received his completed chancellors scholarship application, and that he will get an email if invited to the campus for an interview. The interviews begin in January, but there is no time frame of when to expect this email (or snail mail if not accepted for an interview.)

Hey everyone, so a quick question: when does UPitt send you the invitation to apply for the Chancellor's Scholarship? Do they send that when they send out the other merit aid materials?

I was notified that I was accepted into the Honors Colllege Saturday, and I am eagerly waiting for the merit award information to come.

Thanks!

It usually is included in your scholarship letter. Last year, they invited students who received the partial scholarships to apply for the Chancellor too!

hey d101parent,

how much time elapsed between sending in the chancellor's application and receiving the email?

Sending mine tomorrow!

1480/2240/33
4.23 WGPA - top 5%
2 varsity sports and other ECs (kinda weak)
my essays are ok (hated the questions)

i don't think i'll get it but i hope i get an interview so i have a reason to visit the campus again! good luck everyone!

Akarn: Postmarked on Nov. 18, and email was received on the 23 or 24th.

My application was postmarked the 25th of November, and I received the email on the 4th of December. Good luck everyone!

what are the essay questions like for the Chancellor's Scholarship? How many essays do you have to write?

i stayed at forbes too this summer (elsa, is that you?) for governor's school. it's an awesome set of dorms. although quite chilly for most of the year.

i got the full tuition thing too (useless, since i already get tuition b/c my parents work at pitt) and the invitation, but i don't think i'm going to do it. 10-15 spots with 400 applicants, and a really hard app? no thanks.

however, my cousin went to pitt on the chancellor's scholarship. he stayed in his own, really nice single dorm when he moved in as a fresh, and obviously, they pay for so much, and he's at mit grad school now. so it's def a really sweet program.

^ wow, that's really cool! do chancellors mostly get singles?

and if you don't mind saying, what did your cousin major in? I'm interested in physics at pitt

umm something science-y. i'm not really too sure what he did, and i dunno if most of them get singles. but he wasn't in the towers, or forbes. some other dorm, and it was really nice.

What does everyone mean by getting full tuition scholarships already? I thought the Chancellor's Scholarship was a full tuition scholarship? I'm really confused....any insight would be appreciated!

You also get free room and board, a spending allowance (books?), and guaranteed housing for 4 years (normally not given to seniors).

The essays ya'll have to write for the Chancellor's scholarship. Is it just one essay, or multiple essays?

Are they long essays like 500 words, or do they even give you a suggested or mandatory word count.

3 essays... 500 words max

wow, sounds like a lot of work. Big pay off though if you get the scholarship. thanks for the answer

Hey, if I was notified today that U Pitt received my complete application today, how long do you think it will take before they notify me if I will be interviewed?

Thanks!
