Chances a Junior for his dreams?

Hello, I am a junior looking for guidance on where to apply and what to do with my current situation.

Income: <35,000 a year, maybe a little less.

GPA- 3.1163 unweighted, 3.2414 core, 4.000 weighted Rank: 144/740
SAT:First try: 1650 (520 CR, 560 M, 570 W) Second try: (610 CR, 600 M, 590W)

I did fail pre-calculus last semester, which brought down my unweighted and core, but I am retaking it online as soon as possible.
I will have taken at least 9 AP classes and 3 dual enrollment classes before graduation, and should have around a 4.4-4.5 when I am ready to apply.

Reason for low grades:
My mom has been in and out of the hospital all throughout my high school career. It has really taken a toll on me. Also, I got caught up freshman year with football and didn't have my priority's straight. At the end of freshman year I had a 2.8 weighted and I have come a long way bringing that up.

Extracurriculars:
Boy Scouts of America (finishing this up very shortly)
Debate (4 years, will be vice president next year and have broken at many national tournaments)
JSA (2 years)
Football (1 year, had to quite in order to commit to debate)
I will be doing a lot of other extracurriculars over the summer. I currently have around 300 service hours, and should get to around 1000.

My dream school is the University of Florida. I have wanted to go there since I was little. Past that, It's a toss up between Florida State and Central Florida. I am also very interested in the honors college at FSU, but I am not too sure how my stats compare to that. Anywhere else that is comparable that I should apply that is good for what I want to major in? I want to major in either business, econ, or political science and attend law school afterwards. Thanks for all the help!

I don’t understand how u can have a 4.0 weighted with a 3.1 unweighted. Seems impossible cuz I have same weighted but with a 3.7 unweighted. I will have taken 9 aps as well by the end, an my max gpa would still be a 4.09 weighted. So unfair how some schools do gpa. Apply to ucsd and lower uc schools

Thanks! How does your school do weighting? It seems kinda weird.

5for an A in AP. 4 for A in regular. And so on. Btw, get your eagle project done! I’m working on mine as well and its gonna really help u get into a school that might be considered a reach without it

You will get in to Florida State for sure. I would work on the SAT a little! Good luck!

Thanks!
And that’s strange. My school does 6 for an AP and 5 for an honors class.

One very large bump it is

One very large bump yet again

Someone please help a student in need!

One small bump, One giant leap for mankind

No!! Don’t apply to FSU! Go Gators!
Just kidding.

In all seriousness, FSU and UCF seem like well within your reach. It may not even hurt to apply to UF. They eat up extracurriculars, but yeah, your GPA and SAT scores are below their average. I think you could get into UCF and FSU, and neither would be a bad choice. UCF seems to be gaining more acclaim as the years go by. USF isn’t terrible either, but I would put UCF one step ahead of them and FSU one step ahead of UCF. Good luck!

Think it about it like this, how about you study REALLY hard for your SATs and try to push 1900-2000? With a score like that, you’d be confirmed! I suggest you study really hard for your SAT and retake

Thanks!
@MasterYster I am studying. I am taking it again in May. I should get around that score. Thanks for all of this help! Also, where else should I apply?

One very large bump yet again

And another one bites the bump

UCF and FSU for sure. really try next year in school. senior year is tough with applications and everything, but colleges still look at your grades. i had a friend who got into a school and they had to send in their 1st semester grades and their acceptance got taken back. keep working hard and take the SAT again.

Thanks!
Where else should I apply for poly sci?

And another one bites the bump

A bump a day keeps the doctors away

I don’t think there’s anything else anyone can tell you.
Work on your SAT score, if you get that higher you’ll have an excellent chance; make sure that your essays properly convey how much you want to go to UF; keep that GPA up and don’t slack off.
Also chance me back.
