Essays should be great. Writing about how I failed the 8th grade and how I rebounded to become who I am today.

Recs: Counselor one pretty generic, one of them great, one of them ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

Please chance me for Dartmouth (ED), Amherst, Brown, and Middlebury.

Based off my look through of the Dartmouth decisions thread on the Dartmouth CC thread, I’d say you’re into dartmouth and hence no need to chance the rest.

i don’t know if you could say you’re INTO dartmouth. SATs and grades are probably mid-low range for dartmouth and brown (i can’t speak for the other two schools), but your ECs are excellent. I’d say you have a better chance than most, certainly, but with the ivies, it’s hard to tell for certain.

The game at ivies is a different game from boarding schools. Much will depend on who else is applying from your school as there will often be many legacies and recruited athletes.

This will also probably be a tough year at Dartmouth for Koreans. Their new Korean president seems to have sparked lots of interest.

A shot for sure, but you’re in an uber competitive pool.

there are 3 other kids applying from my school and none of them are recruited athletes or legacies. Also, I have better stats than all three of them. But does that really matter? For ex. would they take my application and compare it with that of another kid from my school?

Your first line of competition is your classmates. Then other kids from similar schools. Stats are key, but as I said before, the boarding school crowd comes with connections unknown in most pools. Top colleges are looking to accept fewer ‘prep’ school kids every year as they accommodate the low income, first generation and even the middle class. Whereas boarding schools used to feed into top colleges without a hitch, things are different today.

These colleges are only going to take s many from NE boarding schools in total. Sounds like your not at one of the big guns–they all grade–so your best info is probably your own school’s Naviance or similar.
