Chances A&M College Station for Fall 2013?

Hi All,

I am a brand new member here on these forums, but I have been reading threads here and there looking for advice on my own situations. I finally decided the best way was to come and ask my own questions.

Firstly, I am graduating high school this coming spring and since yesterday college applications have been released for the colleges. I came to decide that A&M was my top priority for college choices and I wanted to do as much as I could to increase my chances for getting accepted. Below is my current standings in school:

GPA: Approx. 6.18 (3.7 when converted)
Class Rank: Top Quarter
SAT Score: 1840
ACT Composite: 30 (27 when combined with writing)

Advanced Placement courses and scores:

Biology 5
US History 4
World History 5
English Language and Composition 4

SAT Subject and score:

Biology E Subject 760

I realize that my SAT scores are fairly low, because of my writing (520). I have also taken it twice already. What do you guys think should be done to increase my chances at getting into the college? I plan applying to the engineering school for a biomedical degree, and then applying for a double major in microbiology at the science college.

For some background, I used to live in a foreign country for 11 years (English is not my first language, which could be argued the reason for my horrible writing scores). When I moved to Texas, it was during the second semester of freshman year, because my school was on a 7.0 weighted GPA system and my old high school was on a 4.0 GPA system there was an issue when my transcript transferred over. My old high school did not have any honour classes for freshmen, only during the Sophomore year did they have AP/honour classes. because of this, I have 7 classes which I received an A for, but was marked lower because it was not considered a honour class. Do colleges really take these things into account? I somewhat consider this little problem a reason I cannot get into my school's top 10%.

Furthermore, for my senior year in college, I was curious weather or not it would be worth while taking another SAT test? I was hoping that in October I will take the Biology M subject test, and the Math 2 test. Which options should I follow? I understand that Texas State colleges have rolling admissions, and I wanted to give the best chances of not being put on a waiting list. Also, I plan on applying to University of Houston and University of Texas at Austin, could you guys possibly give me a basic outline to see what my chances are for attending these colleges?

I am in much gratitude to you guys,
