Hey, I'm an international student and I'm applying to a couple of colleges this year out of my country's university. I'll be a junior next year. I applied to a few schools last year and was accepted to ALL of them (Boston College, USC, Tufts, Northeastern, NYU and more) but my family circumstances didn't let me go, which was so, so devastating. : (

Now I have to re-apply this year, and because I've taken more classes and harder classes, my GPA is now about 3.66. My major GPA is about 3.8, with B's in large GE classes/language classes. One upsetting aspect is, I have a 'C' in one course (my first and only C, ever,) because I was ill during exam period, and without this grade my cumulative GPA would be about 3.7. But I have what I have. I have very good essays and I think pretty good recommendations, and I am a Dean's list student. I also have participated in many activities, and not just different kinds but consistently.

What are my chances for these schools?
Northeastern
Boston College
Claremont McKenna
USC
NYU
UCB, UCLA, UCSD
University of San Diego

I think you guys can see the kind of schools I'm applying to. What do you think? I know they say 3.6 is "competitive" and "average" but most people on here who seem to get in seem to have a higher GPA than this. I'm borderline so I'm worried and want opinions.

My grade trend is this: I have a 4.0 the first term in college, then for the next two terms my GPA fell because I was devastated I found out I couldn't go to the schools I applied to (also because of that C : (), then I started to pick up momentum again and have had a 3.75-3.8 GPA for the two terms after that.

Do you think I should explain my 'C' grade? The problem is, I don't even have a doctor's note to prove it since it was a one-day thing, and I think it sounds so much like just a whiny excuse, you know, "I didn't do well in this course because I was sick".

Is there a big difference between 3.66 and 3.7? Like when I look at it, 3.7 just seems so much more solid.

Thanks for your help : )
