D just got her ACT score - 30. She’ll have close to 4.0 uw (4.2 w)five APs, great recs and good ECs. She didn’t do well on SAT Subject tests (520 US History, 600 Math).

What do you guys think?

if you use your act scores, your sat and satII scores wont matter. it sounds like your daughter has a pretty good chance of being accepted. it also depends on her essay and recs, but i wouldnt be too worried.

30 is a great ACT score. I would pay attention to SAT II tests only if the score will place her out of a requirement; foreign language, for example. I think a 560 score on a foreign language SAT II fulfills the CAS language requirement.

Your daughters stats are similar to mine. I got a 30 and and got into COE. I had 4.6W and 5 AP credits with 5 more in my senior year.

Okay, help me out here.

What I don't get is that BU requires SAT II scores. The College Board website says you have to send ALL SAT scores to the schools.

If D uses her ACT score for BU, they will still see her crummy SAT I score (1910) (along with her REALLY crummy )SAT II scores (510, 600). So will that hurt her even with a 30 ACT, 4.0 GPA, great ECs, recs and yada yada. Is there some column on the app that says "I AM SUBMITTING MY ACT SCORE - DO NOT LOOK AT SAT I SCORE PLEASE." Obviously being facetious here, but I'm not getting this.

1910 isn't a crummy SAT I score...

You're right. 1910 doesn't suck. My d was disappointed in her score. But the 510 and 600 ain't great.

Anyway, do you guys know whether those scores will hurt her if she decides to use her ACT? (BU will see the SAT scores because they require two subject tests.)

Thanks

If she is applying to CAS, she doesn't need to send SAT II subject test scores IF she sends her ACT with writing score.

Yup.. but even so the ACT is gradually becoming more popular among college admissions officers and will outweigh disappointing SAT scores... She's in without taking into consideration extracirriculars and employment that hopefully she has.

Okay - Here's my source of confusion. From the BU FAQ page:

"All freshman applicants for September 2006 will be required to submit the results of two SAT Subject Tests in different subject areas. For applicants to the College of Fine Arts, two Subject Tests are recommended. ..."

I realize it says applicants for 2006, but are we sure it's changed for subsequent years. And why would they continue to have it on the FAQ page????

I think at this point you need to call the Admissions Office and ask them to clarify the confusion.
