College app time is coming up, and I seem to be at a loss for what to do. I have a good feeling about Yale, but I'd like some other feedback. Also, some questions about the Common App, which I just started filling out. Do we get to send a resume as well? Because that one little EC section doesn't seem exhaustive...I dunno. Let me know what you think.

I'd say you a very competitive application. Your EC's are great, and if you can't fit all of them into the application, definetly finish on another piece of paper.

One thing about the AP scores, you don't need to report them until you are admitted. However, you can still put them on the application, but I would suggest you omit the Physics grade.

I don't know when the deadline for EA is for Yale, but if you have time, consider retaking the SAT. But if you don't get around to it, don't worry.

Write a great essay, have a great interview, and I doubt Yale would reject you.

thanks mathwhiz. no, i'm not the only one with a 4 point. judging by last year's class, there will be at least twenty others (out of 430+) that share this rank. Which kind of sucks, because about half of those twenty have never taken an AP class in their life. Oh well. Anyway, yeah, my essays and recs and interview should be great, since those are the things that got me into tasp in the first place. thanks for the advice. and yeah, i speak farsi.

20 others? Does your school offer really easy courses? You don't usually hear of schools with 20 people geting straight A's. Good job nonetheless. Your EC's are decent but probably not much at yale and that SAT score doesn't improve or lower your chances. Also, 100 hours of community service really isn't much...you can get that in one month over the summer. Apply for Yale, but be sure to pick out some safeties and matches.

If you want to apply early, you've got the best chance. Unless you are a white, male, from the Suburbs, don't apply early, you have no chance. You are a smart, Iranian girl. Your chances improve just due to that. Then your grades and SAT's are solid (your AP's are a tad low, but thats forgivable).

Colleges aren't looking for a perfect A+ student who does NOTHING but study, they would rather take a kid w/ imperfections who is good at something else. You have that. Apply early. You should get it.

To be fair, I think I have the perfect grades--All A's, all throughout high school. Sure, my SAT score isn't spectacular for Yale and I do have the one AP score of 3, but I don't think I'm lacking in academics.

i got a 3 in physics too! don't you think that the colleges will think its funny that you took the class but didn't take the test? for me, i have two 3s, so it'll definitely look funny if i omit both.

thanks guys. I was thinking about asking my TASP professor to write a recommendation for me. He's a leader in his field, and a MacArthur fellow, so it might help. Should I give him one of the teacher rec forms that the app provides? Or should I have him write a separate letter, as a supplement to my two teacher recs?

Hey, at which TASP are you? I'm at the U Mich program right now... uh oh, I want to go to Yale too, lol. Who knows, maybe I'll see you there next year.

hey pianoking, i'm at UT Austin...I heard you Michiganites were pretty much buried with work. We at UT Austin are pretty lucky--we've had about 1 hour of reading per night, along with a paper per week. did you hear about the controversy at cornell?
