oh and i forgot cornell university

I think I know why you got deferred. You are a highly qualified applicant but Williams is practically the most selective lac college in the nation. Your'e extracurriculars were a little week. They are decent but not the best. I think I had the same problem. Of course, I don't know this for sure, but it seems like so many applicants engage in an exhaustive amount of activities. I was deferred from Bowdoin which shares a pretty similar ED acceptance rate to Williams. I also didn't submit SATs to Bowdon so I think that may have hurt me at Bowdoin. Your grades are pretty good and your courseload is quite impressive. I think you have a much better shot at Hamilton, Colgate, Bucknell, and Georgetown. These are all excellent and highly selective schools, just not as ultra selective as schools like Williams, Bowdoin, Darmouth, and Duke. I'd also recommend you apply ED II to one of them. I'm not an admissions officer and just about as clueless as you and everyone else but I still believe you have a good shot. Your SAT scores are great and I think that coupled with your good grades and class rigor will help you with many of these schools. Try to write compelling essays that reveal something unique about you and that show you really think. Best of Luck! and let me know where you end up!

Oh and I should also mention Middlebury. Middlebury is just about as selective as Williams and Bowdoin- but I'd say you still have a decent shot. I think they look somewhat carefully at AP test grades which you've done really well on.

i think you have good shot at cornell

thanks.. i have some more ECs i just didn't go into great detail on here.. those are my most important. i just got into boston college's honors program which is very nice after getting deferred. i think the major problem at williams or maybe even bowdoin(i'm less familiar with bowdoin) is that you need one thing that you're absolutely amazing at or legacy. the school is so small that every person they choose they need them to definitely be able to add something impressive to their campus. that means they don't accept the people who are more well rounded with nothing major that sticks out.

Might want to add Holy Cross and Trinity similar to Colgate and Bucknell. Also Holy Cross has better location than remote Colgate as it is only 1 hour to Boston. Trinity is fairly easy to get into. Williams also recruita a lot of athletes.

hey.. thanks for the suggestions but i'm really not interested in adding any more schools to my list.. i feel like i've researched everything thorougly and those are my favorite schools above.. no need to apply to any other safe schools because i'm already in BC's honors program

I totally agree with you. On the Bowdoin thread the majority of people who were accepted (and seemed just as qualified as those who got deferred) were legacies. If your qualified like everyone else being a legacy really give you a leg up. You also need to have done something amazing for schools like Williams and Bowdoin. The people I have heard of who have gotten into Bowdoin excelled nationally in their extracurriculars- i don't see how everyone can do this. Well if you don't it seems they really need to like something else about you (god knows what) or you have to be an under represented minority, athlete, or live in rural Tennessee, etc. I think it's quite demoralizing that I was deferred and didn't have these advantages. I believe everyone should be treated equally. These schools are just too selective, even for the highly qualified applicant. I think it would have been easier for more highly qualifieed applicants to have been accepted years ago. I'm hoping for better luck with the two other great Maine schools. They seem to be somewhat more reasonable in accepting intelligent people who haven't already accomplished every single thing there is to accomplish. But I shall see if that is true. I honestly had no idea that schools like Bowdoin were so selective. No one had advised me to accomplish something incredible, I thought most selective schools just wanted high grades, great essays and recs, and being well-rounded. I've recently found out that that is not enough and it is too late to do anything else.

bump please
