Anyone know acceptance rates in RD after being deferred in ID?

ya id like to know too...

I'd love to know as well..Do I stand a chance? Rice has literally been my #1 choice throughout high school.....I'm still in shock, especially now since a friend of mine got in w/ an sat score 400 pts lower than mine and lower rank than me.......College applications are such a crapshoot, where are the good old days when stats meant more than ethnicity :(.

Is anyone else sending in additional info?

If so, what?

My mid-year transcript, now that it's finally available in the counselor's office.

check for stats on the rice website. I remember reading that info somewhere.

Anxiousmom, thanks for the suggestion but I couldn't find anything. Congrats to your son. Your name implies you feel what I've been feeling this past year. This weekend has been a long one. I am sad for my S who has tried so hard but without help from his lame guidance office we are at a loss. Rice would have been a great fit for him. Oh well, I can honestly say it's their loss. All the best to your son.

These stats are a bit dated, but here's what I found: http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~instresr/ricestatistics//Pages/select04.html

It says that 36 of the ID kids who were deferred were admitted during RD.

I was looking, too, and couldn't find anything more up to date. Kids are admitted after deferral, and also off of the waitlist -since Rice tends to the conservative when filling the class. They only take about 22% of their class through early decision, so they don't want to overfill their freshman class. Good luck to your son - there is still a chance that he can get in!!!!

Deferral Reversal Plan
I was deferred from my EA school in December. In the process of trying to reverse my deferral, I compiled information from CC and other sources. The plan I came up with is outlined below. It's not a 100% guarantee to work, but you may wish to use some of it as guidance in reversing your Rice deferral.

IMHO, it's very important that you don't do nothing. In other words, do something! Think of it this way: by sending in something, you're (theoretically) forcing the AdCom to re-examine your application.

Here's my recommendation:
Examine (or better, get someone else to examine) your application/profile.
Is there something you could have better highlighted?

• ECs: If you don't think you emphasized your ECs enough: send a resume/activities sheet; send updates of any ECs you've taken up; ask a coach/instructor from an EC to send a recommendation.

• Recommendations: I would steer away from sending another academic recommendation, unless you know a teacher who can add a new perspective.

• Test scores: If you have improved test scores, definitely send them in.

• Essay: I wouldn't send in another essay, since they already have enough of them to read. BUT, if something important has happened to you since you applied, and if you can write a very good essay about it, send it in.

• Mid-Year Report: Obviously, if you haven't already done so, you need to send in mid-year grades.

• Letter: IMO, the most important thing you can do is to send a letter. In this letter, tell them (and prove) that you haven't been slacking senior year, include an update on ECs/grades, brief them on other stuff you're sending and most importantly, show your strong, continued interest/affection for the school. If you will definitely attend Rice if you get in, say so! Make it short and sweet; I would limit it to less than a page.

thanks for the Deferral Reveral Plan Mary.loves.you! very helpful! I've just finished my letter to Rice.

Really. Plan rocks.
