I recieved my deferrance a week ago, but I've recieved my semester grades.

AP English: B
AP Government: B
AP Chemistry : C+
AP Biology: B

Do I stand a good chance? I heard 50% of the deferred get in later.

Although you are in those 4 AP classes, with the high number of deferrals this year and lower number of applicants UMich is planning on accepting, I would say your semester grades aren't helping you out at all. Definately keep up hope though, especially because it truly can be an individualized admissions process and you still may get in!

There's always hope... but make sure you aren't banking on a Michigan acceptance have affordable alternatives.

A 2.75 GPA won't help. Not even in AP classes. Those are indeed college level classes, but look at it from an admissions perspective; that's what they see you doing next year at their university, and they don't want students getting 2.75's.

The 50% deferred rate is indeed true, but the majority of deferred applicants pull off a 3.6 or above their senior year.

Once you are defered do they continue to look at your sophmore junior GPA or do they focus on senior year grades? Heres how my senior year is coming out:

AP Calc - A-
Coneptual Physics - A+
Economics and Finance (history class not elective) - A-
Law and American Society (history not elective) - A-
Expository Writing (honors class) - B+

That percentage who get in later figure is meaningless this year. No one knows.

guapocarlos, you're courseload is not challenging enough. 1 AP? I'll venture to say that, even though you have close to a 4.0 you won't get in, because you're courseload is weak. I think that deferred applicants will have to have very strong first semester grades with a difficult courseload to be admitted considering how competitive the admissions pool is this year. Moreover, I bet that 50% will decrease big time this year due to the increasing popularity and awesome reputation of Michigan.

Anybody have any feedback for me...I was deferred but so far this year my mid-year final grades are:

AP Psych - B
Probability&Statistics - A+
Environmental Science - A
AP Spanish - B+
Academic English - A-
Sociology - A

I guess I should also add my school only offers 5 AP classes, and only 3 which you can take senior year, with an override for double enrollment in math. My english classes are level 1-3 which is the highest.
