Chances after getting deferred

i applied to msu about a month ago and got back a letter saying i was deferred. i kinda applied there on a whim, was expecting to get rejected so i was pleasantly surprised.

anyways, they want to see my 7th semester grades. i got my report card back from my 1st quarter and it was

English 12 - A
Astronomy - A
AP Psychology - A
Film Making - A
AP Sociology - B+
Team Sports - A

my stats for when i sent in my app where 3.2 gpa and 28 act with a couple honors and ap classes. some volunteering and whatnot. i'm an adopted asian too, i hear that helps.

if i get pretty much the same grades for the 2nd quarter what are my chances of getting accepted?
because i also got accepted into cmu and gvsu and i don't want to wait to march to hear that i didn't get into msu and be scrambling to register for one of the other two colleges.

bonus question: if i end up not getting into msu, does anyone know anything about cmu and gvsu?

Oh wow I’m surprised you got deferred so soon applying by priority date, due to your stats and other stats I’ve seen get accepted I would think they would wait to countinue to compare your app.

Well I think you still have a decent chance of admission, probably would hear back soon after sending your grades.

There is no such thing as AP Sociology. Just saying…

And if those are your grades, you should be fine. However, they only accept semester grades so keep that up.

Yeah you likely will get in if your grades stay the same. And to be honest, I’ve not heard much about CMU nor GVSU (aside from the fact that Central is a big party school). But if you can, do your best to get into MSU - keep up grades, send in a letter of recommendation etc. because the opportunities are infinitely greater here (unless you are in a special program at either CMU or GVSU).

I would be surprised if you don’t get accepted later in the year unless you senior grades drop substantially. CMU vs. GVSU is a personal preference unless one school has a particular program you are interested in. GVSU may be a tad bit stronger.

I agree with res, if given the choice, I would definitely pick GVSU over CMU for a variety of reasons. Primarily, GV is well on the way to becoming a nationally ranked school.
