Chances again please... ND and Rice

Hey, I did one of these threads yesterday but it was only for Boston College, so thanks for everyone who gave me feedback! I was wondering if you guys would mind chancing me for Notre Dame and Rice now?

Sex: M
State: Texas
ACT: 34 E / 34 R / 34 M / 30 S = 33 C (I'm taking this again to hopefully get a 34+)

I have a 33 ACT but my class rank is kinda low... I'm about top 15%, however I have a decent GPA (97.8 or 98 ish). My school is really competitive... 98% go to 4-year colleges. With my upward grade trend, I may be able to pull off top 10% by the time I graduate, but probably not by next December. I will probably move up to top 12% or so by the end of next semester.

Also made All-state in band last year, very active in band. Will be a marching officer next year. Treasurer of student council, vice president of SADD. I've been pressuring my principal to let me create a Young Democrats club for a year and it might happen next year (I live in Texas so he is extremely conservative and wary of any student political clubs).

Assuming my essay is good and my teachers give me fairly glowing recommendations (my APUSH teacher has repeatedly told me I am one of the best students she has ever had).

My transcript will show a pretty huge upwards trend in my grades. Sophomore year my dad was arrested for drug possession and sent to prison for 6 months. During that year my grades really suffered a lot. However, this year (my junior year), I've gotten all A's in all of my classes, and I have a challenging course load:

Band A+/A+
Spanish III Honors A-/A-
AP US History A+/A+
Precal Honors A+/A
Physics Honors A/A+
AP Chemistry A-/A
AP English A+/A

Next year I will have an even more challenging schedule:

Band
AP Stat
AP Calculus
AP Physics
AP Bio
AP Government/Economics

By the end of my Senior year I will have taken every AP my school offers except Spanish and French.

Also, I got a 5 on the AP World exam last year.

So with all that information... could you please estimate my chances at Notre Dame and Rice?
AP Lang

bump 10char

...Anyone?

Other extracurricular activities or volunteer work?
But based on what you've listed so far, I'd say you'd have a pretty good chance at getting into ND. Don't know about Rice, though.

For volunteering, I will be volunteering at a sort of therapy center for sexually abused children this summer. I hope to get about 100 to 150 hours by next fall. Not too much, but it's the best I can do.

For ECs, Band, StuCo, SADD, and my political club will be all of my ECs. I go to a small school and the only clubs we have are StuCo, SADD, NHS (I'm a member) and Rotary International. That's one of the reasons I want to start a club, to bring diversity to my school.

The clubs I am in take up a lot of my time. Last year for student council, I helped organize a Walk-a-thon to raise money for a cancer charity. The event raised over $35.000 and almost the entire student body participated. I've also organized a penny for patients drive that raised about $500. Last year I was the head of the community service committee.

Anyone else willing to chance me?

bump again.

hey! i'm going to rice next fall!
WOW= your stats lol! i think that they are good! rice is tricky though. you think that you are going to get in but then you could be wrong. the thing that i LOVE about rice is that they don't just pick the robots with the SUPER high scores (i'm NOT dissing you! you actually seem like a real person. lol!), they pick those (like me) that might not have the best scores but will try their hardest! try to do an interview so that they can see the person behind the application (i didn't do one though) and make sure your essays are hot! if you do talk about your dad (dude! i'm sorry about that!) DO NOT make it sappy. be you!!!

BONNE CHANCE! (GOOD LUCK!)

oh! and being from TX might hurt you. but still apply!! believe in yourself! lol

Yeah I know that being from TX will hurt, but I've also heard that coming from a small school will help me (~145 in my grade and ~550 in the school). Hopefully they will balance each other out somewhat lol. Also, practically no one from my school applies to Rice. Maybe one or two every other year. Only one person has ever gone to Rice in my school's history.

And I'm not really sure how to bring up my family problems in my application since I don't plan on writing my essay about it. I was thinking about writing a very brief summary of the events in the personal statement part. I plan on writing my essay on the challenges of going to a small, extremely un-diverse, extremely conservative school and how I have made the best of it (I.E. starting my own political club).

Thanks for chancing me!

GOOD!!!! don't bring up your family situation!!! lol. i was just giving you advice if you were, ya know? and no problem! i know how hard it was to get people to tell me the truth about applying to college.

"small, extremely un-diverse, extremely conservative school"
DAYUMMM! i know that's hard! lol! how are you surviving? lol

It's tough in the land of Bush worshipers... haha. I have one friend who is liberal like me, but most of my friends are really conservative. I can't wait to get out of here and go to college!

The strangest thing in this school, though, is the lack of diversity. I transfered to this school district in middle school from an inter-city school. Before, about half of my class was Black and hispanic. In this school district there are literally 4 black kids in the whole middle and high school haha. It was just really strange adjusting to it... it was kind of like culture shock to me because so many people are racist here. The comments they make would have probably gotten them killed at my old school if you know what I mean lol.

im gonna bump this one more time since only two people have responded

My cousin (who lives near the Houston area) was rejected from Rice even though he was ranked 3rd in his class at a tough private academy. BUT my sister (we lived in Houston at the time) was ranked in the top 30 and she got in. Apparently Rice likes more geographic diversity, so many out of tx kids get even though their grades are not on the same level as some Texan kids. That may be your misfortune.

all I know is that for notre dame, if you're like really good at sports you're in... but other than that it is hard to get into
