chances, ambitious junior for top schools!

Hey guys, can someone chance a bit of an overeager junior?
I’m really ambitious and I hope I can pull these off.
This is an early idea of what I’m interested in:

Amherst /B
**Barnard
Colgate
Brown
Swarthmore

Don’t worry I know about safeties!

*G.P.A. *
3.9 unweighted I think.. guidance counselor should tell me this week.
Rank is top 5/240? Something like that is the rumor going around the halls

About Me
I’m female, Hispanic, one parent made it through high school.

Go to an affluent public school that sent one kid to somewhere worthwhile last yr.

Should I bother continuing with orchestra? I’m decent at it, nothing special.

*SAT *
Got a 210 PSAT, I’ve done a fair share of studying and think I can get a 2200 in March.

EC'S (nothing remarkable)
130 hours community service so far, at library and yearly community fairs.
Newspaper 11, (should be editor next year)
Key Club 9, 10 (secretary)
Literary Magazine 10 (section editor) , 11 (section editor)
Harvard Model Congress 11
Century Club 11
Nationally recognized for wordmasters last year.
Trying Ayn Rand competition, I’m said to be a great writer so we’ll see how that goes.
Doing Academic team next year, HMC, Key Club and everything else.

Small schools, few clubs, (bad excuses).
I’m *crazy * about newspaper though, and literary magazine too.

I can write a mean essay so I’m sure those will be fine, and I’ll get a great recommendation from my English teacher, we get along amazingly.

Major is probably international relations, or English.

Tell me what you guys think!
I’ll chance back if you’d like.

I’m not going to comment on your chances, just skimming threads. But advice to your senior schedule on your sciences. Colleges really do like to see Physics I’ve heard.

oh that’s good to hear, I was worried that it might not be considered as rigorous since it’s not an AP.
thanks for stopping by!

No, physics is good to have on an app.
Btw… “worthwhile…” I’m not going ivy but I consider my college worthwhile.

you’re in at all of em

I’m sorry, my mistake. by worthwhile, I meant worth mentioning as a top school CC’ers would recognize, since most kids go to our local community college.
you’re right though, that was careless and rude.

You have a great shot at all of them. Write good essays!

You should get a boost from National Hispanic Scholars recognition ([National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP)](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Scholarships and Recognition with PSAT/NMSQT - SAT Suite)) If you didn’t designate yourself as Hispanic on the PSAT, there is still time to register. You have a very good shot at the schools you’ve mentioned, but it’s all a crapshoot at that level of admissions; Amherst, Brown and Swarthmore are reaches for everybody, while Barnard and Colgate seem like strong matches for you.

Between AP Bio and Physics, ask youself this question: do you prefer solving numeric problems (Physics) or lots of memorizing (AP Bio)? I do think biology helps more in a writing career by familiarizing you with more advanced science topics, whereas you’ll never be asked by an editor to do a physics lab.

thanks for all the help you guys! you don’t know how happy I am to know that you guys think i have a nice shot at these schools.
