Chances and a few questions...

White Jewish Male
Miwaukee, WI
GPA: about a 3.4/4 unweighted (My school uses a diffrent grading system)
Class rank: top 30% (Very competitive school)
ACT: 27 (Math-30, Reading-29, Science-26, English-23, writing-7)
- Did a couple sports, some clubs and some volunteer work
-I have an extremly good personal essay because of my life story where I moved all around the world, lived through a war and got to where I am today through hard work. I wasn't born in the united states...I moved here about 4 years ago and had to perfect the english language while maintaining good grades. So hopefully they will apprecaite that. Im not a minority tho... (Im white/caucasian) so no affirmative action can help me.
- I have one good letter of recommendation.
- I am taking 3 AP classes (Chem, Bio, Calc) this year but mostly took a bunch of accelerated classes and a few Honors thoughout highschool.
- I had one job from beginning of Junior year till present

I applied EA BTW...But I still dont know if they have recieved all my stuff.

A few other questions I have are:
1) How soon will I hear back about a decision?
2) If I get accepted do you think I have a shot at any scholarships?
3) I have put pharmacology as my intended major but than recieved a letter saying "you will have to apply to the pharmacology program once you enroll" meaning for now im considered undecided. So my question is...if I get accepted what college within the university will I be put into and is it easy to transfer between colleges?...I am intrested in a science related field...and especially intrested in stony brook due to thier great research opportunites....so id like to get admitted so that i can study a science (probably biology)...so does anyone know anything about this situation?
4) this is a bit unrelated but for those of you who attened or visited...how is the atmosphere?...the area?...how did you like it?

sorry about the many question, im just really intrested in stony brook... thanks in advance to whoever helps out! :)

I'm assuming that you'll be admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences, which is where you'll want to be if you're planning on doing bio until you apply to pharmacology later on.

viperm - a few thoughts on your questions:

1) January 1. If you're not sure if everything is in, contact Jeanne DiPretoro at 631-632-6868, and she can check your file.
2) I don't know about scholarships yet, but I think the cutoff this year is going to be somewhere around a 3.5 and a 29.
3) Pharmacology is easy to be admitted into if you know what you're doing. You can contact the department this summer or this fall and get admitted at that point. It won't affect your admission to the university, which, from what you've written, sounds like you have a pretty good shot. You wouldn't start taking Pharmacology courses your first year anyway; you'll do all your intro sciences.
4) If you haven't had a chance to get to campus, please do visit! It's a decidedly suburban environment -- five minutes from the mall, surrounded by houses and a golf course.
