Also, I have a question: how intellectual is Penn? DO the students love to party more than they love to study? Or is it a good mix? I like to have a good time, but school comes first for me. Will this be atypical at Penn? Thanks for any help.

Also, I have a question: how intellectual is Penn? Pretty intellectual, I guess.
DO the students love to party more than they love to study? I do. I hope so for Penn.
Or is it a good mix? Maybe
I like to have a good time, but school comes first for me. Will this be atypical at Penn? Probaly not, school comes first for me too, and probaly for most of us.
Chances? Good? Seems better than mine... :(

Personal grudge: I hate schools that do AB and BC.

Ok, that aside: how intellectual is it? Not terribly. Most people here tend to be very goal oriented...why do they learn? To get a job. Why do they take classes? To get a job. It's a little less so in the college, but by and large, you have to search for the people who learn for its own sake...but they do exist, and they're very intelligent. EVERYONE here is smart, but many people are just a rote type of smart...they learn things, they use them, but they never commit their minds to the pursuit of knowledge.

I got in to the college RD with freakishly similar test scores (exact same SAT breakdown, 800 math, 770 ush SAT IIs, 222 PSAT) and our ECs seem comparable, so you should have a good chance. Although I thought my essays were quite strong, you still should be fine RD.

your stats are very very very similar to mine. you should have NO problem applying with a math major. i got in ED. applied with a math major... you really shouldnt have a problem RD either.

im a white male, northeast PA

very nice. i also did track, but i quit. too much going on.

-aj

Prospective major doesn't really influence your application. Hooray for math majors, though :D

Actualy, when I think about it, I'm learning to get a good job rather than learning for learning's sake. Sure, it comes into it, but what's the point in being smart if you don't have a job secured?

The point is to be a more enlightened being with analytical ability and a more profound worldview...the rest, such as jobs and whatnot, flow from this.
