Chances and I will chance back

Hello everybody. Please chance my son for some top schools, and I will chance you back.

He attends a prestigious private boarding school in Mass. There he has a GPA of about 3.4, and an upward trend. (They don't actually calculate GPA, but I did it online) The school sends probably 70 percent of its students to either a top 25 university or a top 20 liberal arts school (and many more to schools just outside of the top 25 such as Tufts, W&M, NYU, Wisconsin).

It has no class rank and offers very few APs outside of Latin and Greek.

SATS:
1480/2200 - 750 (cr), 730(m), 720(w).

Sat IIs:
680 Math I
710 US History
720 Lit

AP
5 - US History
5 - English Language.

Extras: (I don't want to write to many of them down, but here they are)
- an editor of the yearbook.
- Paid summer internship at local newspaper.
- 2 Sport Varsity Athlete
- Head of a few clubs + lots of community service.
- Understands Chinese - I don't know if this should be on it.

Additionally, he has half Asian and half white, and we live in New Jersey, but he goes to school in Mass.

He is interested in English, and is largely looking at southern schools.

So what are his chances at: (Also, please be honest):

Duke (I know, I know)
Vanderbilt
Emory
Wake Forrest
USC
UVA
William and Mary
UNC - CH
Washington and Lee
Davidson
Tulane
Elon

Also, we will not request any aid.
Thanks a lot!

Duke, 50/50 at best, but good shot at all after that. I’d try for a few more SAT points, both I and II, to strengthen the profile.

Admission is tricky from top preps at the top 25 of so colleges. It gets really skewed because of all the legacies, top URMs and recruited athletes. They colleges know any of these kids can do the work but they can’t accept too many from any one school. Make sure he writes a very strong application. In my experience, no matter how good the college counseling, they don’t help enough with that.

Duke ---- reach
Vanderbilt ---- slight reach
Emory ----- slight reach
Wake Forrest ---- match
USC ----- def shoo in with good essays and recs
UVA ---- shoo in!
William and Mary ---- idk about this one
UNC - CH ---- shoo in if u are in state…and match if u are oos also
Washington and Lee ----- idk much about this college
Davidson ---- idk much about this college
Tulane ---- slight reach
Elon ---- idk much about this college

hey chance me back…sorry i forgot to copy my link but search my user :]

Thanks for the responses, any more?

I think you have a good shot at everywhere but Duke. You are probably safe with any non top 25 school, and for the top 25 schools listed minus Duke, you should be fine.

bump 10char

Here is what I think:

Duke - reach
Vanderbilt - reach
Emory - match
Wake Forrest - low match
USC - high match
UVA - reach cus you’re oos
William and Mary - reach cus you’re oos.
UNC - CH - reach cus you’re oos
Washington and Lee - high match
Davidson - high match
Tulane - match i think, not too sure.
Elon - safety

Davidson a high match with a 3.4 GPA? I doubt that. I’d call it at least a reach. Your test scores are decent but Davidson doesn’t care about test scores at all. Write a killer essay and show a lot of interest if you want to attend Davidson.

Duke - Reach, not impossible, but unlikely
Vanderbilt - High Match/ Low Reach
Emory - High Match
Wake Forrest - Match
USC - High Match
UVA - Low Reach
William and Mary - Match
UNC - CH - Match
Washington and Lee - High Match
Davidson - High Match / Low Reach
Tulane - Match
Elon - Safety
Very good chances every where (except Duke, not impossible though). Good luck!

Duke - Reach

I think you’ve got a very good chance at everything. Duke might be a bit of a reach because it is one of those top 15 schools in the United States.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/772325-chance-me-please.html

bummmmmmmmmmp

I would say match at all privates besides Duke and Vanderbilt (low-mid reaches) which are very popular. You also should get into most of the publics but your chances are all high match/low reach for those because of the OOS thing. Don’t worry too much though. You will be heading to a great school next year no matter what.
