Hello, i will be applying to penn -wharton this year and i had a few questions. i am from quebec, canada, so i dont fully understand the US admissions game (pretty much everyone i know ends up at mcgill)

Will being canadian help me?

Will the fact that i am international and wont need financial aid help me?

Why do they ask if you are black/asian etc.

If you are jewish is that a benefit, or a negative. (or hopefully, no difference)

And do i stand a chance:
2150 SAT
780 sat math
760 physics
750 chem

and I am from canada where there isnt rampant mark inflation. i was top 5% in my high school (valedictorian had 91 avg) and my grade 12 is actually sort of compulsory junior college where everyone must go as HS finishes at grade 11 in quebec. i am top 20 out of 7000 at college.

also, i own a ticket brokerage, i have two employees and i make about 10,000$ in sales a year. I have tons of EC’s by canadian standards, and have the most rigourous pre-u background available in quebec.

i really do appreciate any feedback i can get!

1) Being Canadian won't "help" you, but it won't "hurt" you either. They know that your school system is different from the US.
2) International w/o fin. aid. usually helps. Whether Canada counts as "international" or "American" has been up for debate recently here.
3) Why do they ask if you are black/asian etc.? Welcome to the world of American politics, entitlement programs, affirmative action, and confusion :-). Just answer it honestly.
4) Jewish? Doesn't make a difference. They don't look at that.

do you think i stand a chance of getting in?
and im just curious what would happen if i said i was black/native whatever, and it turns out im white.

If you lie on an application, and they find out, it's guaranteed that you won't be admitted, and you better believe that they will contact other schools with your name and inform them about you. Just don't do it. If you're morally opposed to the concept of affirmative action, just don't fill in any of the boxes.

Try to get your grades & scores up. I think you should build a little on your extra curriculars. Do/Did you hold any leadership positions in any of those activities? Any awards you've gotten?

As of what I've read, you have an "okay" chance, but I really don't see anything that stands out.

well i actually have good ec:
i was my grade's representative to the student council
i am a coordinator of my program at my college (organize events)
i am also the president of the debating club at my college.
also, i was in my schools top concert band, playing the trombone
i also was the team leader of the schools trivia team (play against other schools)

i also have pretty good work experience, two summers in a hospital as an assitant and a summer at a major montreal law firm as an archivist.

i also come from quebec's top public HS.

SO: am i a "reach" a "match" or a "safety" penn is the only school i plan on applying to...

Don't worry too much about 800s. 750+ is a good range. Grades just show that you're academically capable, and you seem to be. Try to get in the A - average range though, UPenn likes A's.

Hmm I actually don't know if UPenn's a reach or match for you. You seem to be a good candidate, and stand a fair chance. Apply Early Desicion if you're sure about UPenn, that will boost your chances. Work hard on your essays, show yourself.

thanks a lot. quebec has more rigorous standards than america though. averages are in the 60's, and any mark above 85 is an "A." So i technically have an A average.
