Chances--And Should I Do SCEA?

Yale is my number one school, but I am not really sure if SCEA is right for me. I don't know if I stand out enough. I'll try to keep this brief, and for privacy reasons, general as well.

SAT/GPA: 2290/low 3.8 (My school is extremely rigorous, but I am top 10%)

ECs: I am president of two clubs, captain of a varsity sport, serve on a few school committees, have minor leadership roles in a few other clubs. I am a very "artsy" type applicant, and do a lot of stuff under performing and fine arts, my major ECs. I'm very accomplished in that area (international awards, big performances and shows, etc) and will submit supplements and supplemental recs.

Recs: I'm sure they will be excellent, but definitely not mind-blowing. My supplemental recs will be very, very strong (one of best ever, etc).
Essays: Very strong, at least I hope. I'm sure they will stand out at least a little.

I am also un-hooked. No legacy, URM, etc...

I am hesitant about SCEA because I know that you have to stand out. My numbers certainly do not do that. Hopefully, they at least don't hurt too much. However my ECs and essays may help me stand out. I heard Yale likes artsy people? I don't really know. I am pretty unsure about this, so any advice is much much appreciated. Thank you guys!!!

If you really want to go to Yale or truly feel you’ll have a better shot applying early, then opt for SCEA. If not, then apply early (EA or ED) to the school you really want to attend.

No more than they like techy people or premed types, or any other group you can think of.

If you have international awards in your major EC - performing arts, with shows, etc, you should apply SCEA if Yale is your 1st choice. As far as SATs/GPA, you’re in the range that gets you considered. You will not be accepted or rejected based upon those numbers. It just gets you through the screening process. Their decision is based on the whole package - essays, recs, international/natl recognition in your area of passion, etc. Good luck!

Wait so what is the minimum score on the SAT/ACT that gets you considered? I thought they didn’t have cutoffs…

@ thefranchize9: there ISN’T a cutoff, technically, but theres a general range for where you should be if you’re serious aboutu getting into Yale (or any of the other top tier schools, for that matter) IE if you have a 1500/2400 SAT score or something, you will probably get rejected, unless you have some amaaaazing hook

International art award? That sounds fantastic! If you love Yale, definitely go for it.

@fuzzyfirebunny, would a haitian, first generation, 2 varsity sport athlete, be big enough hooks coupled with good scores? (in my case) lol i’m just curious…
