Hi guys! I'm an eight grader (shh) at one of the most competitive schools in the US. I was wondering about my chances of getting into an Ivy. My top choices are UPenn, Harvard, and Princeton.

Here are some details about me:

I'm a Harvard and UPenn legacy
I'm an competitive optional gymnast (extremely hard sport, very few make it to optional levels)
I have straight As (I realize I'm only in middle school, but I know I can continue getting very strong grades in HS)
I'm an artist, planning on taking AP Art in HS (creating a strong portfolio)
I'm a strong writer (won many contests and have work featured in poetry collections etc.)
I skipped a grade (fifth)
I take Chinese
I'm female
My school is ranked 4th best in the nation (has the 4th largest amounts of grads going to top tier universities i.e. Ivy Leagues, Stanford, MIT, CalTech etc.)

Do any of you think I have a chance to get into an Ivy? Do y'all have any ideas of things I can do to become a better candidate?

P.S. I realize that I'm asking this question really early... Sorry to bother you all.

Not to be flip but your chance of getting into an Ivy as an eighth grader is zero. The same goes for ninth, tenth and most likely eleventh.

No one can accurately predict your chances even if you were a senior and had a long list of achievements to show us, so asking about your chances in eighth grade is just plain ludicrous.

Just work hard. Get good grades and do whatever you love outside of school with enthusiasm and passion and then see where you are in a few years and if the Ivies are a realistic goal. Obviously, being a legacy at two schools helps but these days you have to have the goods as well. There are some articles that Gibby and others have recommended to ninth graders. Perhaps, he can locate them for you.

You probably already know this, but nothing you do in middle school is taken into account in your application. You skipped a grade? Unless you skipped a grade in HS, it won’t matter. The only thing I can tell you is to get good grades, continue doing gymnastics, as we all know it’s insanely hard and enjoy High School.

my advice? 2 things: Stop worrying about your chances at top schools and get off CC… you do not wanna be on this forum addicted throughout highschool. Use it as a resourse but at your age/grade, it is a long ways away. As of right now only remember the following things:
When you enter 9th grade, make every course/class count whether that means going the extra distance to get a better grade or going the extra distance by taking hard classes.
Secondly, join atleast a couple of clubs you are interested in 9th grade and try them out to see how they are because ones u like, its better to start early so you can get involved in what you love and get experience/leadership.
And USE YOUR SUMMERS WISELY: I dont mean like study and take classes every summer but I mean that don’t just sit around and do nothing. Volunteer at camps, teach, work, research, there is a thousand things u can do (im talking about summers after 9th grade) other than just sit…just my opinion
and lastly:
HAVE FUN IN HIGH SCHOOL…u only go through it once.
