Chances? Any help would be awesome!

Hi! I posted a while back, but now that my junior grades are fairly final now, I wanted to see what my chances to some of these colleges are. My current UW GPA is about a 3.55 and my weighted GPA is a bit below a 4.1. However, I believe with my first-semester senior grades, my UW should be above a 3.6 and my weighted should be closer to a 4.2. I got a 1510 on the SAT, but I took it one more and I think I might get a 1530 or so. I have taken the Biology SAT and got a 730 and I am also going to take the Math 2 and Chemistry SATs this summer.

In terms of ECs, I have a shadowed a doctor for an entire summer, volunteered at a hospital’s OR for over 100 hours, and I will be staying at VCU this summer for a research internship studying cancer. I have also played varsity tennis for 3 years now (and won 3 state championships) and will be the captain next year. I was a center manager for a non-profit tutoring organization and also a club representative of a neuroscience club I participate in.

However, the biggest thing that is worrying me is my sophomore chemistry grade. Unfortunately, I had a really difficult teacher who was a really tough grader and I ended up getting a C. Although all my other grades are As and Bs, I think this grade will really bring my chances down since I am looking to go into the pre-med track (majoring in neuroscience). Also, I go to Thomas Jefferson High School, which is a magnet school in Northern Virginia that is known for being a difficult school.

Here are the schools I am thinking of applying to:

UVA
VCU
William and Mary
UNC Chapel Hill
UPitt
UMiami
Northwestern
Northeastern
Drexel
Penn State
UConn
Cornell (just for the heck of it)

I really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I think you’ll be fine. Your ECs are quite extensive in the area that you’re interested in- I think that they will easily overshadow your chemistry grade.

Best of luck!

I wouldn’t get your hopes up for UVA – especially because you’re from NoVa and go to TJ. However, I think you have a good shot at W&M and VCU. Cornell is a bit of a reach, Northwestern is a high match/low reach. The other schools look good.
Chance back?

I think you will be fine. I am applying to Drexel, Northeastern, Penn State, and UPitt myself. Drexel and Northeastern because of their co-ops but Penn State and UPitt are great at my major Nursing and they have sports and a lot of team spirit.

I would say you have pretty good chances for most of these schools. Cornell and Northwestern would (probably) be the only reaches for you (some others may be high matches or low reaches) but your academic qualifications (besides your GPA) and your ECs (concentrated around your area of interest) look pretty competitive. Also, I’m pretty sure colleges will recognize your school to be one of the best in the nation, so hopefully that will help you. Good luck!
