Chances? Applying to Georgetown College.

2014 Chance
Thanks in advance

GPA
-3.65 GPA UW at prestigious private school in the South-West (4.33 = A+, 4.0 = A, 3.667 = A-). My school does not give bumps for honors or AP classes and thus I do not have a weighted average.
-School doesn't rank, but I am approximately 15/105
-Very smart school with very little grade inflation

ACT (taken June 2009)
32 English, 35 Math, 32 Reading, 33 Science, Composite 33, Writing 11, English/Writing 32

SAT IIs (taken June 2009)
-Math IIC: 800
-Biology M: 740 (please notice that in my curriculum I did not take a Biology course junior year, so I was very happy with this score).
-World History: 670

I am not going to submit World History. I am retaking SAT IIs in October to see if I can get a better score on Biology M, and to get a better grade for my third SAT II.

I will be applying to the College. Hopefully double majoring in economics and political science. I HAVE visited campus... lets just say that I fell in love. I have two cousins (father and son) who attended Georgetown Law, but I have no idea if that will help in the admissions process. I think my essay writing is mediocre, but a lot of people tell me that it's good, so I think I can pound out some pretty good essays. I'm very personable and very good at meeting new people so I think my interview should go rather well. As well, I know my GPA looks very low for typical Georgetown applicants, but am fairly confident that at other schools it would be much higher (I know how terribly arrogant that sounds, but I go to a very smart school with very little grade inflation). Thanks!

this forum is for Georgetown University, not Georgetown College. Unless you meant the the one in Washington DC, then you are correct with the incorrect name.

Sincere apologies, I failed to clarify. By “applying to Georgetown college” I meant that I was applying to the undergraduate section of Georgetown University, called Georgetown College (i.e. not the Nursing School, nor SFS, nor MSB). So I think we were both correct, again my apologies. Unfortunately, I cannot change the title of the thread methinks.

Anyone else?

You have great scores, and your leadership in your ECs look awesome. I’d think you would have a great shot at the College.

Thanks! I think my GPA might be a little on the low side, does the admissions department make a huge deal if your GPA is about 1 to 2 tenths lower than the average acceptance from your high school (I only know this from Naviance).

Dude: We ALL go to really smart schools with little grade inflation, so get over that. A 3.6 at a tough school is not terrible, it is fine. (Try to get it to a 3.8.) I know plenty of people who got in with that. You will not be penalized for not taking AP’s freshmand and junior year because they were not offered.

You have a strong enough record to compete - write a really good essay. Take all summer to work on two and then pick the best one in the fall. Good luck - Hoya Hoya Saxa!

Your EC’s are great, as are your SAT scores–and you’re on the right track with taking another SAT II. Yes, if you can, get your GPA up, but remember that the score they post as the average is just that–the average score, which means there are people who had lower. So what I’m trying to say is, bring it up if you can, but don’t stress too much.
