Chances as a BU transfer

Well right now I’m a freshman at the University of Texas at Arlington and I’m doing a program where if I maintain a GPA of atleast 3.2, I get an automatic transfer to Austin. Right now I’m actually doing pretty well so I think I won’t have much trouble making grade (I know it sounds presumptuous but I’ve been working pretty hard). I want to someday maybe make television commercials so I’ve been looking at maybe applying to a few schools with good communications programs, just to keep my options open. I was recently offered an internship with a production company in the area thats making a reality tv show. I was offered a spot on the crew and I will probably be travelling around America to help film the show. If I got a letter of reccomendation from one of the shows producers (who has won an emmy) do you think it would put me over the top at BU and make up for my somewhat average stats?

HS GPA: 3.7 unweighted
SAT: Math 620, Verbal 640, Writing 660 = 1920

ECs: don’t really feel like listing them all. over 200 hours of community service, student council, student athletic council…etc.

Schools I’m interested in applying to: UNC Chapel Hill, Syracuse, UCLA and Northwestern (haha might as well give it a shot).

Do I have a shot in hell at any of these schools haha. Also are there any other school’s with stellar communications programs that you think I should look at. Thanks for your help.

If your college GPA is high (definitely well over 3.2 would be desirable) and your essay is strong, you should have a shot.

haha well yeah, if i can't get atleast a 3.2 at UTA i don't belong at BU. right now i have a 4.0 and i hope to maintain it.

you have a good shot. they let in over 30% and an average gpa of 3.5.

For the 4 yr Bu colleges, not CGS, yes I agree you have a good shot but its never a sure thing. The letter may help for COM if thats the BU college you are interested in. NW is a real stretch and the academics are really intense so even if you sqeaked in you may want to think about being in a school where you fall in the so called lower end. All the other schools seem like about an equal shot as BU and it's a realistic list. Good luck. Keep us posted on your application status.
