Chances as a transfer student to Georgia State?

Currently a junior at Georgia Southern. I want to transfer to Georgia state as a Spanish major, but my GPA is only slightly above their transfer cut off. Their minimum requirement is a 2.5. I have a 2.65.

I am slightly worried. I started university a few years ago at a two year college with the idea of going to university in Atlanta to be near my family, but ran into some problems and left there with a poor GPA. The only school in my range was Georgia Southern, and I've done well here. Thanks to my screw up at community college, though, my CGPA is only this. The only saving grace is that my transcript at GSU hasn't been bad and I made the president's list last semester. My grades from this semester are good, too, but won't be in by the transfer application deadline. Additionally, my major GPA is 4.0.

I would apply if you really want to. It can’t hurt and the worst thing that can happen is you just have to stay at your current school. Is there a particular reason you want to transfer from your current school?

Well, my dad’s health is pretty bad, so being in Atlanta would put me at 30 minute drive home instead of a nearly five hour drive home. Plus, the program was the one I originally wanted to go to and I prefer the Atlanta scene in general.
