So first off, could i get into Swarthmore as a junior transfer student? Should I explain my high school situation with the admissions people (not as an excuse but more an explanation) and anyone with info about transfer students at Swarthmore that can share would be appreciated! Thanks

I don’t know too much about transfer students, so take this with a grain of salt. But your SATs are very low compared to typical SAT scores of Swat applicants. You would need to demonstrate that you could handle the academics at Swat as well as fit in. If your community college transcript can demonstrate that, that would be good. Swarthmore would still be a very very high reach for you I think. I don’t know details of your background so I could be wrong.

my sat’s are the weakest point of my app i know…thats why im happy that swarthmore does not require transfers to submit test score; obviously i will not be

I too am interested in possibly transferring to Swarthmore. I’m entering as a freshman at a University, but while I’ve yet to start, I feel that a small liberal arts college would be the better fit. Money was a big factor, as the University I’m going to is at no cost to my family and I, and a subpar high school record dissuaded me from applying to more selective schools like Swarthmore. Anyone know the odds of getting in as a Junior transfer? I do plan on getting very good grades by the way.

I can’t point to any stats to back this up, but I heard from many people while I was on campus that getting in as a transfer is far harder than getting in in the regular pool. I’m not saying you guys shouldn’t apply, but all of the transfer students I met were truly exceptional (and often from other top LACs or Universities that just didn’t fit in there for whatever reason), so apply to less selective LACs too…
