Ouch, that last one was a little harsh. It's true, your unweighted GPA might be on the low side. I'm not sure how your weighted GPA stacks up with say the highest GPA in your class, but the large jump from UW to W means you've taken a lot of honors or AP classes, so if that's true, that's a boost. You say your EC's are pretty humdrum, but that's about where mine were except for the Korean American charity stuff. I was in a few clubs, and I had a few small leadership positions. I would advise you to take the SAT again just to bring up your writing (if I read "1550/2140" correctly, you got a 1550 on math and verbal combined, and a 590 on writing, true?). If you could get it up around 650, your test scores would be great; they're already good though. I think most of the pieces are there, and the GPA might be there too depending on the context (if your 4.15 is near the top of your class or lower but you go to a very competitive school or something). If you put your application together well, you could definitely be in the running, I think.

if you cant even get excited about your own activites i dont see how you expect someone who is reading your application to get excited about you. Seeing as you dont think your activities are great or really shaped you in a unique way, I dont think so either and would have to agree with C2002. If you cant tell the story in a compelling way and seem passionate then it doesnt matter what your SAT scores are.

However do you think my chance would change if I added that fact that the average GPA for Columbia acceptees at my school was 3.6 (compared to my 3.47) and that my guidance counselor is writting a letter about how my sister is very sick. Shes been in and out of the hospital a quite few times and I've spent many hours a week in the hospital with her? And of course this has impacted my GPA.
