Hey, there. I'm Korean first of all (probably hurts my chances). A little above 4.0 GPA weighted. And I'm pretty sure I'm on track with all the classes. I'm also within the top 4% of my graduating class.

I got a 2030 on my SAT Reasoning Test. I got a 31.5 (rounds to 32 for composite score) on my ACT. I got a 680 in Biology and a 720 in chemistry. I have never failed an AP test. I have gotten 4s on US History and Chemistry and a 5 in Psychology. The the other three tests were 3s.

As for extra curricular, I didn't do much 9 and 10th just a few clubs in which I had no position. 11th grade I joined a club that trains for the Los Angeles marathon. We practice after school 3 days a week. I'm and currently training to be able to completet he LA marathon again in March. I got a black belt in Karate during High School. And every week I do stuff with my Christian Youth group. I also have a lot of service hours (250+). However, I didn't do anything productive during the summer.

Do I have a fair shot of the higher tier UCs (LA, Berkely, SD)? Or am I doomed to go to Santa Barabara, Irvine, or Davis?

I suppose you're a match/slight reach for UCB and UCLA...the rest is obvious. (The only problem is key ECs).

And "doomed" to Santa Barbara, Irvine, or Davis? Seriously? That's absolutely insulting - those are amazing schools...There's more to college than acceptance rates.

If you are going to apply to Northwestern, don't submit the SAT score. 1468 (M+CR) was the average for the admitted students this year. Your ACT looks a lot better, within their mid-50% range of 31-34 for the admitted students. Those ECs aren't going to help you. NU does consider essay "very important" so while it seems like a reach, a great essay may be enough to get you in. You can apply ED to raise your chance.

LOL @ doomed to go to UCSB, I, D. Many would kill to get into those schools, so have that in mind as you apply.

ELC does matter in a couple ways
1. There is no cap on how many classes you may weight for your UC GPA.
2. For the schools that use the point system for admission, you are granted extra points for being a ELC student.
3. ELC also just looks good on your app.

All in all, I think you are a high match/slight reach to UCLA/Berkeley.
Match for UCSD

My UC GPA is 3.96 when I first calculated it, but if what junshik said about the ELC program is true, then my UC GPA would be much higher, perhaps 4.3ish.

Wow, is this true? I have a 4.03 (not UC weighted) and I'm not in the top 4% of my school. I'm like at the 6% mark. Is my GPA capped to 8 extra points of AP credit now?

i wanted to add that i am really similar to you academic wise. i got 2030 on the sat and my uc gpa is 4.09. also i dont have any outstanding extracurriculars besides good volunteering/work experience. i am only applying to ucs and i have my heart set on going to either ucb, ucla, or ucsd. from what ive been getting from most people is that ucla/ucb is a slight reach and every other uc is a match or safety. i wish you the best of luck!
