Chances at a phd program in mech e

Hi

First time posting here... i guess i was a bit nervous about applying for a phd program with the stats i have.. so im asking your thoughts..

I did my undergrad and grad at top 7 u.s. engineering school in mech e, with 3.2 and 3.01. As for undetgrad, if you only count the enginerring courses, it goes up to 3.78. And as for grad gpa... I got 0 in a essential course due to some family issues that prevented me from doing well in it. So without that one class, its 3.34.

After graduation, I have been working at Samsung for three years doing extensive research work using commercial cfd software to develope fans, wrote one patent, but no publication yet.

I havent taken the GRE yet but planning on it. My practices put me somewhere around 159 v 167q. My previous GRE writing was 4.0(the score i used to apply for my masters)

I know its not much info but what worries me is my GPA... Some part of me says a good recs and also my experience at Samsung will offset the bad gpa.. but then again, schools may just throw out my app due to the low gpa...

Any thoughts on my chances for grad schools?
