I don't intend on visiting Rice until after admission decisions come out(if i get in) - unless visiting improves my chances somehow? =/

So could anyone predict my chances at a scholarship (at least half)? And how many scholarships does Rice give out total?

You're competitive to get in. Your bio looks similar to the few who get merit scholarships, but I'm not going to try to guess any type of probability or anything. Definitely worth applying, but I'd have a back-up.

I had stats similar to those, and I got no merit scholarships from Rice. Rice gives out some amazing scholarships, but unfortunately there's so many more students deserving of scholarships than those who receive them. Just apply and see what happens.

Your chances are higher if you're not from Texas. They're trying to increase diversity.

how many scholarships does rice give out a year?

wow, you sound very much like me last year.
The AP's you took, lacrosse, mu alpha theta, the stats...

I got into Rice and received a scholarship, a little over half the tuition. BTW, I'm Asian too- I'm an international student actually.

Do you go to school in Hillsborough?. ..by any chance?

nope, i live in lake mary, FL. Though i remember the name Hillsborough from something tho...is that in Alabama?

Rice loves vals/sals more than most schools. Refer to the "facts" section on their website for details.

haha really? Do they really like NMFs too?

Yeah, Rice tends to collect valedictorians and National Merit Scholars, but that doesn't guarantee you a scholarship. Rice may offer you a small scholarship for NM (like maybe $800/year). I was both valedictorian of my HS class and a NM scholar (I accepted a $2500 scholarship from NM so I wasn't eligible for a Rice award), and I got 0 from Rice.

I got $0 NM from Rice and something like $275 a year from NM - so it's not very safe to count on getting a scholarship.

Supposedly, Rice will supplement you with $500 so you do get the $750/year, or at least that's what I was told when I asked the FA Office. :]

"nope, i live in lake mary, FL. Though i remember the name Hillsborough from something tho...is that in Alabama?"

Haha wow. Hillsborough is the county which contains Tampa. You live about an 1 1/2 hours away from Hillsborough. Don't let Rice see that quote.

I got a 14k merit scholarship and my stats were quite different than yours.

770 r, 720 m, 650 w
3.5gpa, 5.6weighted
6th in class
eagle scout
vice pres of fbla, vice pres of jsa
active in synagogue
hispanic

Considering the kids who did not get merit this year at rice..I'd have to say alot of it has to do with how unique of a character you seem to be.
I had a really killer interview and talked about everything from parties to chess with my interviewer and my essay was about being german jewish italian basque french peruvian and all this other stuff so i figured that might be alot of the reason they picked me.
I applied to the engineering school but i did not get an engineering scholarship. They also give out merit for different reasons...mine was trustee distinguished, some are to recruit minorities(trustee minority) and others for music. It's really kind of hard to tell who will get what.
I'm also from miami florida so that whole geographical diversity thing might help you too.
