I’m an international student, wanting to apply to Brandeis as ED. I am actually considering whether I should apply to Mount Holyoke as ED and leave Brandeis as regular, since Brandeis (I think) is a clear reach for me. Also, SCHOLARSHIPS are the most important factor in my college decisions, so any comments on financial aid will be greatly appreciate. At maximum, my parents can offer 25k.

Planning to take another one in DECEMBER BUT!!! I’m applying to Brandeis as ED… so won’t apply

I don’t think Brandeis is a reach for you at all. Your GPA is above their average and your SAT scores are right in there. The amount of financial aid you will get really depends on how the financial aid views your family’s situation, not what they say they can pay. Brandeis also has merit aid in addition to need-based aid.

@Awesomekidsmom Hi, thank you for your reassurance Do you have anyone you know of currently attending or previous attended Brandeis? I’m really interested in this school and want to know the atmosphere beyond stats. However, I am in a dilemma - trying to decide where to apply as ED, Vanderbilt (REACH!!!), University of Richmond, Mount Holyoke or Brandeis. Since I’m highly interested in Chemistry and Education and all of these four have highly renown education and chem majors/minors, I am shooting for the most scholarship opportunities. I do know that Vanderbilt is a bit off, and even if I get in it will be a tough ride all the way… Reading the posts and threads about life at VU intimidates me. Brandeis seems a bit scary too in an academic sense, but might as well try out. Mount Holyoke would be a very safe place for me, but not on my priority list. University of Richmond drags me all the more because of its Criminal Justice major that is not offered at Brandeis and Mount Holyoke… Could you help me out?? Thank you!

I don’t know anyone very well, but the daughter of one of my friends is a sophomore there and another friend’s daughter got in, but decided to go to a state university because of cost. Brandeis is my son’s first choice and we will probably get in touch with the sophomore we know. She is in an upcoming theater production that we will see and we may try to meet with her after the show. I really can’t give you any advice about the various academic programs as I don’t know much. However, if money is a big factor, I don’t think you should be in a hurry to apply to any of these schools early decision. It doesn’t sound like you have enough information to choose a clear favorite, and you would be obligated to attend if you got in, and the money might be better elsewhere. At a minimum, you should go to each of these schools’ websites and check the net price calculator to get an idea of what it will cost you. Good luck!

I’m a Brandeis grad from “back in the day.” I loved my experience there. I think Brandeis is a clear match for your stats. Have you run the net price calculator on financial aid? I suggest you call the fin aid office if you have any questions on that score.

Hi - sorry I didn’t reply earlier. I’ve been off CC for a few days. It’s a friend’s daughter who attends, not mine. My son is currently applying and considers it his first choice right now. I don’t know any details about any study abroad restrictions, but I doubt that they would stop someone based solely on their major. One of the things that struck me most when we visited was that everyone we met seemed to be a double major - often in very different fields, so I don’t think they try to keep people on a narrow path. They really want you to get a liberal arts education.
