Chances at an Ivy League?

almost no one is a shoe-in at dartmouth or any other ultra competitive school. be careful!

I want to major in computer engineering. I have kind of shifted my focus to Cornell (which has a much better, or more highly-regarded, compE program), with University of Washington (good sking ~45 minutes away and a great comp. engineering program, and at about $16,000 a year tuition the airplane flights wouldn't be much of a problem) as a backup/safety. I also looked at Boulder; while they have a decent engineering program, I'd probably only end up there if I didn't get into Cornell ED or Washington later. It is good to know that your cousin loves it there - I hear Boulder is a beautiful city.

Your son sounds like he should be a shoo-in to at least one of his top choices. Middlebury turns me off as well because I am not really interested in a liberal arts college at this point. I know many people major in physics and then grab their MS in engineering at an engineering school, but I'd rather get right into it.

I guess, right now, I'm looking at Cornell as a first choice (ED), then U. of Washington as my top regular-admission choice, with applications at Boulder and maybe Syracuse/U. of Rochester? I'm also going to visit RPI (I'm kind of turned off by the nearly 80% male population, but it's worth a look). Any other suggestions?

how do you have such a low uw GPA and such a high weighted one?
