Chances at ASU or UA?

I’m a junior at a very good private Catholic high school in Connecticut. 99% of the people who graduate go to college with the remaining 1% enlisting in the Navy or something. I’m in all Honors classes with 1 High Honors class (Math). I’ve definitely slacked off for the past few years, but have been picking up my grades of late. Freshman year: 1.6 UW GPA, Soph year: 1.9 UW GPA & 1st half of Juinor year: 2.0 GPA (Yes, I’m well aware it is low and I F’d up.) So far in the 3rd marking period (2nd semester) I have a 3.0 and am doing much better. Is there a chance that colleges will look at more than just the 1st 1/4 of my Senior year as well? I’m not familiar with college deadlines.

1st time taking the “practice” SAT from Princeton Review (which I was told is exactly the same as the real SAT) I scored a 540 math, 510 in CR and had a 10/12 on my essay and the composite score was a 1550. I plan on improving more from the class and getting it up to 1800+.

I have not taken the ACT test yet, but I did take the practice one and scored a 25 composite. I don’t remember the exact grades for each subject, but 25 total. I’m hoping on improving this score when the real test comes.

I play baseball (stopped after soph. year for personal reasons, I still play competitively in the Spring, Summer and Fall with a semi travel team) & I also bowl varsity (All 3 years so far) I also ran track for 1 year.

I have a lot of community service under my belt as well. This upcoming Summer I plan on either volunteering at a zoo or working at a Minor League baseball park. Possibly both if I can fit it into my schedule with baseball.

I’m white if that means anything. I come from a middle class family. I live in a nice section of a poor city. The last few years my dad has been making a lot of money and we’ve been unable to get any financial aid for my private school. He only got this really good job a few years ago. My parents are concerned about money, but they REALLY want me to go to a school I want. They want me to be independent and learn how to live on my own.

I do appreciate the previous comments I received telling me a CC is the best option, but I’d really like to seek other options. Please note that UA & ASU are NOT the only schools I’m interested in. I’m looking for a school that will accept me and is also located in an area where I can play baseball and follow my hobby of herpetology. I want to major in EITHER Biology (Zoology) OR something in the field of business. I really want to do something in baseball. Whether that be marketing or scouting or something in the front office. I also really enjoy business, especially marketing. As for Bio, I have a deep passion for animals (specifically reptiles & amphibians) and want to go to a school where there are many reptiles & amphibians around the it. (Think Arizona, Florida, CA even though I know I can’t get into any CA schools, etc). I’d love to study business while also doing field work on the side OR being able to major in biology, but still be around baseball and possibly get an internship with a Minor League club.

All replies are appreciated and I’m willing to listen to any advice or other school suggestions. I’d prefer a school in one of the places I mentioned above. Thanks in advance!!!

I’d also like to add Cal State San Bernardino, Northern Illinois University, Troy University, Cal State LA, Florida Gulf Coast, Cal State Northridge, Coastal Carolina, University of Hawaii, University of South Carolina & Angelo State University.

I also wouldn’t rule out any of the SUNYs, Uconn, Pace University or Rowan University.

bump! Someone please help! Thanks.

bumppp

The GPA is the main flaw, I think. It’s good that you showed progress, however. Other aspects of your resume are fairly good. The only thing I worry about is your GPA. UA is a pretty easy school anyway, so I think you would get in there in any case.

Chance me for UW-Madison please!

@healthandmusic do you think they could not “forgive”, but take into account the fact that I’ve had severe migraines that have affected my grades since I was 8? I’ve got tons and tons of doctor’s notes, hospital visits and old medication to prove it. Would they take that into account maybe?

I’m from California.

This is unfortunate but… all CSU’s only accept depending on GPA and SAT/ACT.

Depending on your major, they accept by highest GPA/SAT/ACT to lowest. Like ladder acceptance.

@healthandmusic‌ “UA is a pretty easy school anyway” ummm that’s a slightly offensive comment to make.

@FutureHerper‌ that would be something I would ask your guidance counselor. Have you talked to him/her about building a college list, or is that something that typically happens your senior year?

@itshydro would it look bad if I did really well on SATs after practicing and taking classes, but had a very weak GPA? I think there was a few schools in Cali that accept you if you meet a minimal SAT, but it was VERY high. I could be wrong so please correct me if I am. Thanks

@pmmywest My guidance counselor is pretty awful. She has helped me with nothing. I plan on meeting with her very soon. If not her, maybe another one in my school. I’m more than halfway through my junior year and I have no knowledge on college administrations what so ever.

@FutureHerper it really does depend. it does not look bad at all though

Why not Towson in Maryland? I think they have a herpetology major or concentration.

@spacemaned I checked up on their reqs and I’m very far off. I’d have to go to a CC first and then transfer which is an option.
