Dear geodim : My oldest just went through the Chemistry program as a major and received his diploma in May 2011. An excellent program, the University has made moves in the recent years to award credit for lab classes which should make your degree completion one or two courses “easily” based on the new credit scale.

Your extra curriculars and school related sections tell a relatively complete story. Your AP course work is on the technical side of the liberal arts which aligns with your Chemistry direction, but leaves us short of the likely highest curriculums offered by your High School in English, History (Social Sciences), and Foreign Language.

Then, we get to your ACT. Are you aware of the ACT scores associated with the middle 50% of accepted BC students? The bottom quartile starts at a 30.

That story is tough enough but are you actually submitting an exam sequence that includes a 23 on the English section to a Top 30 University that prides itself about the strong liberal arts core required? We implore you to rethink that strategy.

Some time back, we discussed a student application/profile that sported a ACT cumulative score of 28 and one section score at 24. We will offer the same advice. You have to take the ACT exam for a second seating. These scores are not the best ticket for attending Boston College.
