Chances at BC?

Hi  BC is high on my list for college, think you guys could let me know my chances? I’m applying as an art major by the way.

I am a Caucasian female from Massachusetts and I am from a competitive high school in the suburbs

GPA: 4.173 weighted, don’t know unweighted.
SAT: 2090 (640 Critical Reading, 700 Math, 750 Writing) I am taking them again in December
SAT II: 620 Math I, 700 American History

I have taken all Honors and AP’s since freshman year, except when they have not been offered. Last year I took AP English Language and AP American History. This year I am taking AP English Literature, AP French Language, AP Psychology, and AP Art. I have taken year long art classes since freshman year.

EC’s: National Art Honors Society since sophomore year, I was vice president last year (there are no officers this year). I am part of National Honors Society this year as well as Excelsior (a student-run art and literature magazine at our school. I have also contributed art to it). I’ve been involved with theater behind the scenes (except last year, I’m continuing this year). I play piano (and compose sometimes) and I have played numerous times at events for the school. I have also taken many art classes at the local museum. My art has been selected for various exhibits.

I have won a postcard contest in my town and also our school’s Black History Month art competition.

Though I haven’t had a job, I have been volunteering with a foundation involved in raising money towards cancer research in children for three years and have contributed art for the auction 8th, 9th, and 10th grade. My family has personal ties to this foundation and cause.

Think all that is good enough?

Thanks! :)

I'd say your chances are a toss-up, but you definitely have shot, especially applying with all your art credentials.

Your stats are right in line with the mid-50% of admitted students at BC, so you are definitely in the ballpark. Although being a white female from MA may hurt you a little (just because there are so many of those applying to BC), the fact that you have taken a very rigorous course load (with all those honors and AP classes) and that you are interested in studio art (one of BC's smallest majors) should balance that out. If you did well on your AP tests last year and if you can display your passion for art in your essay, I think you have a better than even chance at admission. Submitting a great art portfolio to supplement your application will help too.

Thanks to both of you! and thanks for the advice :)
