Colleges I'm considering are as follows: Columbia, CMU, Berkeley, UCLA, Harvey Mudd, Princeton, Stanford, UPenn, Cornell, WashU, MIT, Caltech, Northwestern.

I plan to study computer engineering (EE/CS) but care a lot about the name as well (e.g. Columbia has a decent engineering program and has a great name so is strongly considered).

I know I threw in a lot of reaches in there but I just wanted to see where I stand with these colleges. Please help me out with this momentous decision and any comments are greatly appreciated!

Your grades are a little low for some of the best engineering schools.

Columbia, Pton, Stanford, UPenn, Cornell, NWU, MIT - higher reaches
WUSTL, Berkeley, Harvey Mudd, Caltech - lower reaches
CMU - high match
UCLA - match

Thanks for your opinion! I’m totally fine with where I stand and will be content with some of the matches/low reaches.
However, how hard is it to get into each category of school? (high reach, low reach, etc.) Does high reach mean that I’ll could probably still get into some of them or that I’ll probably have a high chance of getting into none? How are my chances in terms of percentages? Thanks!

anyone with more advice puhlease? :)

Those colleges are mostly all reaches. What are your ECs? To get into Columbia, Princeton, UPenn, Stanford, Cornell, Caltech, and MIT you’re really going need something that sets you apart from the rest. Any science/math awards or competitions?

Agree, you need a couple more matches and a safety on this list. Low reaches are still reaches… I think Mudd also would be looking for some evidence of ECs outside academic performance.

thanks guys! any and all advice is appreciated!

Columbia: reach
CMU: low reach
Berkeley: low reach
UCLA: high match
Harvey Mudd: high match
Princeton: reach
Stanford: reach
UPenn: reach
Cornell: reach
WashU: reach
MIT: reach
Caltech: reach
Northwestern: reach

your GPA is way too low for most of these schools

Columbia: Reach
CMU: High match
Berkeley: High match
UCLA: Match
Harvey Mudd: High match
Princeton: H-Reach
Stanford: H-Reach
UPenn: Reach
Cornell: Low Reach
WashU: Mid Reach
MIT: H-reach
Caltech: Reach
Northwestern: Low reach

Honestly, nothing terribly wrong in terms of your numbers and stats, Though WGPA could be higher. Hope them ECs are coming along, those can make or break you in terms of those High match/Low Reach schools. Best of luck!

Chance back if you will?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1557170-heres-my-numbers-so-chance-me-maybe-cornell-ed.html

Thanks guys! This really lets me know where I stand. Even if many of these schools are reaches, it’s important that I keep that in mind when applying to them.

I’m considering the option of applying early decision to Columbia. Since most agree that it’s a reach school for me, it should be a good school to ED to to increase my chances right? I’m applying for engineering, and would perhaps like to double major in econ/business in the future.

How would my chances be for ED Columbia Engineering and what do you guys think of this decision?

any more advice? everything is appreciated! :)
