stanford is a reach for anyone, just thought you might want to know, i applied EA, from out of the country, rejected, stats 1400 (800M, i think this was the reason)
my friend(living in calif.) was deferred
1460 (800M), 800IIc, 760Physics, 750writing and 720 bio
and he is a varsity basketball player and also some club pres. etc
so just don't depend on it too much

stanford is my big reach...however I am getting a letter of rec. from my dad's friend who is high up at stan and also one from my neighbor who is an ex-senator stanford alum.....wat i really want to know is my chance at berkeley

you realize race doesn't matter for colleges in cali right ? prop 209 ended affirmative action in cali in 1996. i think most schools do give extra consideration if you're from a underprivileged background (ie poor family)

edit: you have similar stats to me... and i also applied to ucla, cal and stanford

dude it's hella crazy... the acceptance rate for UCLA dropped to 10% this year.. this is what it says in my letter: "You are among an exceptional group of 4,300 students in our fall 2005 freshman class, and you were selected from the largest pool of university candidates in the nation -- over 42,000 talented and accomplished applicants!"

I think you read it wrong. There are 4300 freshman, but 42000 total applicants. Last year UCLA had 13k transfer apps, and accepted about 5k of them.
