bio 680

stacked ecs

essays have been described as "kick ass" and "just short of life changing"
but seriously they are solid

what are my chances at a school the likes of Berk. UCLA etc, i know i hear in less than a month but i am nervous

stanford is a reach for anyone, just thought you might want to know, i applied EA, from out of the country, rejected, stats 1400 (800M, i think this was the reason)
my friend(living in calif.) was deferred
1460 (800M), 800IIc, 760Physics, 750writing and 720 bio
and he is a varsity basketball player and also some club pres. etc
so just don't depend on it too much

stanford is my big reach...however I am getting a letter of rec. from my dad's friend who is high up at stan and also one from my neighbor who is an ex-senator stanford alum.....wat i really want to know is my chance at berkeley

good at berkeley I think, what makes me nervous is the "stacked ecs" statement, I'm hoping you're a "leader not a follower." ;)

elbrian9:

UCLA: Match
UCB: Match
Stanford: Reach

for sure, i have lead quite a few extra currics

hmmm......anybody?

you realize race doesn't matter for colleges in cali right ? prop 209 ended affirmative action in cali in 1996. i think most schools do give extra consideration if you're from a underprivileged background (ie poor family)

edit: you have similar stats to me... and i also applied to ucla, cal and stanford

You will be accepted to all of them, in my opinion.

OneMom:

How can you be so sure that elbrian9 will make it into Stanford?

Well, I'm not really. It just seems he has good stats and he does have some connections there.

someone has to have something to say

You are in at Cal and UCLA

Why don't you check your admission decision at UCLA, now that it's up?

it's up now ??? i thought they didn't put it up until the 15th

I am in at UCLA

i got accepted too ^^

See what I mean? I told you UCLA was a match! :)

dude it's hella crazy... the acceptance rate for UCLA dropped to 10% this year.. this is what it says in my letter: "You are among an exceptional group of 4,300 students in our fall 2005 freshman class, and you were selected from the largest pool of university candidates in the nation -- over 42,000 talented and accomplished applicants!"

I think you read it wrong. There are 4300 freshman, but 42000 total applicants. Last year UCLA had 13k transfer apps, and accepted about 5k of them.
