Chances at Berkeley??

I'm applying to Berkeley for Fall '07 entry, not sure if I can get in though. Can anyone tell me if my stats (listed below) are good enough?

GPA: 4.114 Weighted
ACT: 32 w/ writing .... 34 w/o writing
AP Scores: English Lang. - 3
Statistics - 4
Calculus BC - 5

Top Band at #1 Music H.S. in country, Marching Band (Section Leader), Pep Band, Steel Band, possibly math team senior year. And 2 jobs.

I'm planning on majoring in Math or Stats if that helps. And any idea if my 34 ACT will have any impact on admissions even though it was taken w/o the writing portion at the end?

the 34 will not be considered if its without writing. Is you weighted GPA capped at 8 semesters, because that will make a difference. I would say slight reach.

I'm not sure what the 8 semester cap means. And I guess I'm going to have to take the ACT again, unless they allow me to send the 32 and 34 as long as one of them had the writing (probably not). Here are my SAT scores and Class Rank at a very competitive OOS school. Thanks for the fast response

Class Rank: 93 / 1000 (Will go up, this stat is based on old GPA)
SAT I (1st Time): CR-620 / M-710 / W-650
SAT I (2nd Time): CR-600 / M-780 / W-670

Thanks again.

What's your GPA unweighted?

I believe my UW GPA is at about a 3.95 / 4.0

I did some of the calculations w/ the 8 semester cap and all, and I'm really starting to feel that berkeley is out of reach. With a 3.95 with the Semester cap and the average weighted being 4.25, I really think I'm screwed. The problem is that my sophomore grades were a decline from Freshman year and now my junior year grades are much better and UC seems to have an "ignore freshman year" policy.

Freshman year: 4.2 / 4.1
Sophomore year: 4.1 / 4.0
Junior year: 4.2 / 4.4

All weighted. Does the recent increase mean anything to them? Should I discuss it in one of the essays/personal statements??

What? Wait, first you said your UW GPA is 3.95 and now you say your weighted capped GPA is 3.95. Also, are you a Californian resident?

And no the recent increase (especially so miniscule) will mean nothing and don't mention it in the essays.

He mentioned he was OOS.

I think you're gonna have to increase your class rank and increase your SAT scores for a better shot. Write good essays, too.

I see. Well, I think Berkeley only cares about UC GPA and not about class rank. Look up "UC GPA" and try to calculate it. Umm...SAT scores could be higher but unless it's a big increase (which I don't see happening) probably not going to help much...OOS is tough though. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Hopefully I'll get a chance to speak to some Admissions Counselors when I visit later this month. Thanks again everyone!
