Out of state (New York) Asian
Thanks guys!

Your GPA is low for most Cal Applicants (avg was 4.2 I think).

Your SAT scores make up for your GPA...check your UC eligbility for out-of-state.

SAT IIs are good as well.

Cal's applicants (aproximately 80% or so) rank in the top 4% of their graduating class (based on ELC).

Your ec's are good...could have a little more leadership positions...the community work goes well.

BIGGEST FACTOR HURTING YOU: You live in New York. UC's generally admit California residents. Out-of-state admit pool is about the same percentage for in-state but more competitve. UCs also like to admit "under-represented" minorities (e.g. African American, Hispanic, Native American/Alaskan) but they don't discriminate (hence the dominant Asian presence at Cal).

no offense but i think ur a reach because
1. You're out of state
2. You're GPA is low (even though your SAT I makes up a little for it)
3. Your EC's are kinda weak

but good luck anyway man

Agree with the out-of-state issue...you aren't going to get any help from that. I was in-state, although I was born in New York. I'll be rooting for ya. We can never have too many New Yorkers, especially with all these crazy SoCal kids running around campus.

Your GPA is a little on the low side, but is that UC GPA or your school's GPA? Because if it's the latter, then you're in luck: your UC GPA is probably much higher! Check with your counselor to get more clarification!

Despite what the previous posters have said, your SAT scores are a little troublesome. Sure, the high SAT I is great, but those SAT II scores count twice as much in the UC equation, and let's be frank, there are a lot of Asian kids out there with over 750 on all three SAT II's. My experience with the admissions dept. is that they really look at those numbers, a lot more than you would think...

Anyways, it's going to be a bit of a reach, but stranger things have happened. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if you went either way. Good luck.
