Hey, my dream school is UCB, would be applying as an English major.

I go to a pretty crappy, though not horrible, Socal public HS, where my Class Rank is 31, or my 10-12th grade class rank is 25. My Non-weighted GPA is 3.889, and my 10-12 Non Weighted is 4.0 (4.6 weighted).

Did sort of ok on the SAT:2070, SAT II Lit: 760, SAT II US Hist: 800.

AP Scores: 5 - US Hist
5 - Eu Hist
5 - English Lang/Comp

Really weak on the EC's: Volunteered at a biweekly basis at my schools writing center junior year. (Continuing it this year.)

Expect to have pretty good essays, I'm a pretty good writer. My biggest weakness is my race...I'm the white male opressor :((.

So yeah...what are my chances?

Edit: Oh yeah, this year's class schedule.

IB Eng Lit 2 HL2(taking AP test, Film, Economics (non-H), IBPsych (taking the AP test), Ap Stats, and Honors Pre-Calc.

Do I really? MY EC's are rather pathetic, and my SAT score is avg for Berkeley. I imagine those facts, combining with my non-minority status doom me for UCSC.

Note: UCSC is my second choice, I'm not implying that I don't think I could get into UCI and friends.

dude,, you can get into UCSC with scholarship..or something..
i can guarentee.. with your SAT score you can go there easily..
i live in santa cruz, so i take classes at UCSC.. i am guarenteed to get accepted to there cuz i took so many classes there..
anyway,, for Berkeley you have an average chance.. but good luck

Awaiting the post that will inform me I'm a sociopath for not having volunteered somewhere, and that my doing so prevents me from getting into Cal State Fresno...

Seriously though, can someone with one week EC actually stand a chance of getting into the top UC in this age of political correctness?

If you live in California, you're basically in at UCB. Just to make sure, I would retake the SAT. Don't worry about your EC's--the UC's really concentrate on your stats (GPA+SAT). The fact that your White doesn't hurt--statistically speaking, you can score lower than Asians and get still into UCB.

Would love anyone elses opinion...and as stupid as it may seem I do not plan on retaking the SAT. I have no desire to get back into the SAT taking mindset, and would assume I'd receive an even lower score than I did on the first take, (the first take having been taken with a hypoglycemic biochemistry and no food for 5 hours!).
