What is the competitiveness of these two majors? I’m interested in both and I can’t decide which major I should apply to. My CSU GPA is 3.68 and SAT CR+M is 1410, so my acceptance to cal poly could depend on the major I apply to. I know engineering is often thought to be much more competitive but the 2011 admissions profile says otherwise.

Engineering Science and Mathematics

Applied 9,433 6,716
Selected 3,504 2,834
Enrolled 1,287 715
GPA 3.94 3.85
ACT 29 27
SAT 1299 1220

Engineering is overall more competitive but not by a lot. And from what I hear biomed engineering is one of the less competitive engineering majors so its requirements could be even lower? Idk. But anyways, which major would you think would increase my chances of acceptance? Btw, I know people say not to apply to a major just because you’ll get in, but I honestly have no preference between these two majors. I’d be perfectly happy studying Biochemistry, Biomedical engineering, Biology, or Microbiology. Thanks!
