what is your ethnicity? not being racist, but that does affect your chance. the general consensus is that BU is easier to get in than BC. for BU, your GPA is a tad bit lower than those of my friends who got in for ED. i’d say your EC’s are pretty fancy, in a good way. I hope you wrote about the Church experience really well. 1st generation is good. workload is great. really, its the scores and the GPA thats dragging you down. For BC, its like getting into a harder BU. haha good luck

I’m a white male so that doesn’t really help my case. But I learned that BU focuses more on academic rigor than GPA and whatever else, and my schedule this year is among the most difficult in my high school. An admissions officer also told me that a low GPA can be justified somewhat by a positive trend. My freshman year gpa (3.2) is what is killing me, while I have a 3.9-4.0 this year.

For the church experience, I wrote how I do community service as a way of saying thanks for all the financial aid they gave my family over the past few years. One of my essays is about how I’d probably be homeless if the church didn’t intervene. Most of my essays are centered around religion actually. I was hoping that this would give me a competitive edge at BC.

I think that you are right, BU is a match and BC is a bit of a reach. Regardless, you are pretty well qualified for both and definitely have a good shot at each
Best of Luck to you!!!

I really wanna go to BU too! I’m going to be a junior and not to be “self-consided” (i don’t mean to) but i go to one of the best high schools in the country and i don’t know if that makes a difference in admissions? i have a 3.5 (uw) and so far weighted i’d probably have 3.7-3.8.

Next year I am taking…

Honors Chemistry (equivalent to AP Chem in my school)
Honors Genetics
Honors Analysis (trig/precalc)
Honors French (equivalent to AP French in my school)
then my english classes and my history classes

and senior year i think im doing…

AP Bio
AP French/ College French
AP Literature
then a writing course too
AP Calc AB
AP European History
and some other classes

i am also a school officer for my grade (part of student gov)
president of a club
part of 6 clubs (not including the one im president in)
600+ hours of volunteering/ community service
will be going to a BU summer program this year
and doing a study abroad/ internship next year

i want to be pre-med/ undecided for a real major

PSAT score was 198/240—predicted SAT score was around 1980-2000

I personally think you have a good chance at Boston University

I wanted to know my changes

i have an unweighted GPA of 2.8 and a weighted of 4.0
i have taken all honors and AP classes
my sat is a 1200/1820

i have a REALLY long list of EC’s from national swimmer to nationally accredited piano player

my essay was check by 3 college advisors, it was about my struggle with dyslexia and adhd and how i have grown from it and enhanced my thirst to learn.

i know my GPA is low, but i feel as though when the admissions people at BU read my struggle and how no one was there to accompany me or facilitate me they will see the my 5 c’s on my transcipts are because of my struggle with numbers.

I think you do have a chance at getting in because I heard that for BU essays are really important especially ones that stand out and I think yours will definitely stand out. They also like EC’s a lot and its really good that you got your essay checked over by 3 college advisors, so I think you do have a chance, the essay is definetly going to help in the processes, maybe not your grades by definitely your essay explaining how unique you are and how you overcame struggles.

I think you’re in at BU, and BC is a possibility, depending upon your essays. You sound like you would bring a lot to a school, so if that came out in your essays, you have a shot at BC. Good luck.
