Chances at Boston College?

I am a caucasian female and am currently undecided as far as a major goes. I’m interested in entrepreneurship/business and the sciences.

Current SAT score (old version): 2080 [which I have found to be near the average for this school]
Breakdown: 630 CR, 680 M, 770 W

Unweighted GPA: 4.0

AP Scores- AP World (3), APUSH (3), AP Lang & Comp (5)

Course Load for Senior Year:
AP Calculus BC, AP Economics, AP Lit, AP Physics, Spanish H

• Four national honor societies in the fields of math, science, history, and English.

• Key Club (all four years)

•Interact Club (a member my junior year, which was also the year it was first introduced in my school)

^ These clubs are volunteer organizations devoted to giving back to the community as well as the nation on a larger scale. Key Club is my main priority, and I partake in almost all of the events (which there are a lot of).

Some include:
An annual talent show to raise money for cancer (I have worked on the raffle committee for three years) called “The K Factor”

Sears Tour: We are assigned an underprivileged child from our community and take them on a trip to sears where we have $150 per child to spend on cold weather attire (we then wrap them as gifts for Christmas, and include donated toys and books)

And many more small events and drives!

• Relay for Life (freshman, sophmore, junior years. I was captain my sophmore year)

• Concert band (since elementary school, I play flute)

• Marching band (sophmore, junior, senior year. Flute two years, piccolo this year.)

• Varsity Crew team (rowing; member of the team sophomore, junior & senior year)

LEADERSHIP Positions:

• Section leader of my section (flute) in marching band

• Secretary of the Math Honor Society

• Recording Secretary of the Science Honor Society

  • Secretary of Band (I know leadership in band is unconventional but my school has always had it)

• Relay for Life Captain 2015

Please mention any other school recommendations!

I have already visited and toured their campus, so I know my name is in their system (in case they track demonstrated interest). Also, I plan on applying Early Action. Given this information, I was hoping to receive some feedback with regard to my chances of being admitted to BC and any advice you have to offer to help increase these chances.

Thanks so much!!

Your EC’s, test scores and GPA are all there so I think you have a great shot. The thing is, they take into consideration legacy and religious affiliation (Catholicism)… Im not just saying that because I am also applying :). You shouldnt have a problem though, maybe we will be future classmates! Btw they do nt do demonstrated interest unfortunately

You also must apply directly into one of their colleges, there is n undecided at BC.

BC seems less keen on Catholic upbringing and more interested in goals consistent with Jesuit ideals (it is one of the essay prompts in fact). As correctly stated above you need to apply to a school within BC. Your profile isn’t really competitive for the business school, so you need to think about whether you want to apply for a&s and have little chance to take business classes.

@jackoneill @Oregon2016 I will be applying to their college of arts & sciences (thats where my main interests are) and was raised as a roman catholic so maybe those two aspects will work in favor of my chances. Are there any specific aspects of my application that you think I could strengthen between now and the time I apply? Should I try to get involved more with volunteer within my community instead of just within my school? Any advice is very appreciated!

You don’t need any more volunteer activities. Spend the time writing the best essay that reflects Jesuit principles. You also need to prepare for another SAT in case you don’t get in EA and want a chance in RD.

I think you have a great chance! Just make to choose a college to apply to. Also focus on the essays because the supplemental questions for this school seem very important!
