Hi Stuck,

You're SAT verbal and math SAT scores and your gpa are a bit light for Brandeis. It would be a stretch for you, though your strong SAT2 math scores may help somewhat, depending on your intended major. On the other hand, your violin ECs are very impressive. If I were you, I'd search out a college or university:

At which the median SAT for the Freshman class is around 1310 (M+V).

Is strong in the area in which you want to major

Has a strong music department that wants good musicians.

Schools with median SAT scores around 1310 include Boston College, Boston University, U of Richmond, U of Rochester (good music school), NYU, Lehigh, Case Western Reserve, U of Michigan, Trinity College in Connecticut, Bucknell, and Dickinson College.

And where ever you apply, you should emphasize the violin stuff in your EC list and your essay.

Oops. Make that "Your SAT...

thanks amptron...

i am definitely applying to at least 5 of those schools :)

i wrote about my violin teacher and my volunteer music group in my essays. :)

any more opinions? bump

I agree that your scores and GPA are low. I'd say most people here had an A or A- average in high school.

yeah id agree your GPA is just a bit low, but really Brandeis doesnt seem to be all about numbers, i got in with a 3.7 uw,
and my sat where horrible
610 math 560 verbal 540 writing 730 bio 610 chem,
although i did also sent act which was much better 28 composite.

i had good essays recs and ecs also and interview, so its not out of the question just you need to have some backup! good luck!

Go for it, but like I said, it's a stretch, so choose your backups with care.

thank you for the constructive criticism...

i just got my new SAT scores. and i'm pleased to report that:
750 (critical reading)
690 (math)
540 (writing) eek

do you think these will help me

hmm any more opinions?

bump please?!/

pretty good chances now, with a 1460....
