hi, i'm thinking of transferring to brown and am trying to get a sense of my chances. i really don't know what brown's criteria is for admittance and any info would be great.

Obviously since I didn't go to school I don't have a GPA or class ranks or teacher recs or anything (hehe...my Mom actually wrote my teacher rec)

College:

B- avg 2nd semester freshman yr
grades aren't in yet for this semester....but it looks like it will be straight As (I hope)

What else.....I lived in Morocco until I was 10 (city of marrakesh and a village in the Atlas mountains, Imlil) (so at one time I was bilingual but alas, no more)
I speak french pretty well
I'm Cuban

Want to major in poli sci with a concentration in environmental policy and int'l politics. I think I can get good recs from my political science teacher and my boss at tellus. And yes, I'm going to work really hard next semester. But I don't know if good recs and better grades can make up for bad sat scores and a bad freshman yr. Honestly, i would like to say that i'm this awesome student and adjusting to school was a breeze but freshman yr was tough and unfortunately my grades show that.
ok, that's about it...I would really love to hear any opinions. I'm so confused about what I'm doing and how I'm supposed to do it....so anything you say is very much appreciated. thanks for reading all this :)

Honestly I dont think you will get in. Basically its due to your college GPA. Because you are home schooled and your SATs are low (for brown) you needed to have a 3.5ish to be in the running. Sorry. You might look to Vassar, similar to Brown but easier to get into

Universities are much more transfer-friendly than LACs. Let's examine these numbers:

Brown: 763/196/116
Vassar: 218/37/18

Brown accepts 25.7% of its transfer students while Vassar accepts 17% of its transfers. Now, which one is harder to transfer into?

Also, Vassar is more numbers-oriented whereas Brown will accept a student with slightly lower grades if he has an interesting, compelling personality as well as an obvious passion for learning that will vivify the student body.
