Chances at Brown University RD

exactly srrinath, everyone has a 50/50 shot at every school that they apply to, hmom5, he can apply wherever he wants, you can give him an honest answer if you want, be nice though, your a big girl.

Everyone has a 50% shot at every school they apply to? Oh brother!!!

The 50/50 is kind of hard to believe, but hmom5, tell me what you think a good hook/strategy would be. What else can I write about in my essay?

No one can tell you what to write about, and at this point you either have a hook or not, you cannot invent one.

It is ridiculous to say that anyone applying to a school that has a 13-14% admit rate has a 50/50 chance! what? do the math people!

You don't say what kind of school you go to (I don't know what an exam school is), but if you didn't take the hardest program, that is going to have negative impact. The lower gpa without the hardest program is a double whammie. The positive is the upward trend in the math and reaching AP calc BC. And it seems to me you'd do better to do well grade-wise at the core AP's (Lit, Calc) rather than to tack on the extra ones. The 5 core classes seem a tough haul, so be sure you are performing well and can keep it up. Otherwise drop something if you can. SAT's look good. But still, I'm thinking you are iffy.

What seems intriguing is the Bio publication, and business internship what's that about? Nothing else stands out particularly.

Make impactful essays. Don't just waste a whole essay on just summer at Brown (they will see that you went!), you can include that in the Why Brown? essay.

Echoing what others have said, Its a reach.

Your GPA/Scores are low.

BUT....dont give up hope! Write great essays and get good teacher rec's. If you show that 1)you are a great applicant that would bring something unique to Brown and
2)Brown is your first choice school, you should have a chance.

It's a big reach. You need to look into a range of schools. There are less selective schools that have some of the same characteristics you loved about Brown--do research, and find them (if you're a senior, hopefully you've done this already). Apply to Brown, but don't talk yourself into thinking that it's the only place you'll be happy.

An exam school is a school where an exam is required for entrance. MY school was ranked 20th best public in the Nation. Dont know if thats good or not because it doesnt include private schools

One of my teachers at brown offered to write me a rec along with my 2 required recs from school. Should I accept?

if you feel it will help, then go for it.

i had both of mine write letters and send them in along with my other 2.

i cant see how it would hurt (unless you did really bad and they write bad things about you)
