Chances at Brown?

Hey, I am a rising Senior looking to apply to Brown, and I'm wondering what my chances look like. Unfortunately my tangibles aren't fantastic I don't think, I'm hoping my extra curriculars will make up. What do other people think?

My stats:
GPA: 3.97 Unweighted (One B+ in French, would mentioning the special circumstances behind this be a good idea?)
4.0 Core Unweighted
Class Rank: 50/411 :(
SAT I: 2140 (730 in both verbal and reading, 680 in math)
SAT II: Will take in October; likely very high Lit, high USH, and decent in a third - either Math II or Chemistry (though Brown only requires two subject tests)

AP Classes:
AP World History
AP Language Arts 11
Next Year:
AP LA
AP Gov
AP Calculus A/B
AP Comp Sci
AP Physics
All my non AP classes were Honors, though I tried to take AP when it was available (I did take one non-AP class when AP was available, that may have screwed my class rank, scores are weighted only for rank, NOT GPA)

ECs:
-Vice President of Drama Club, have directed or starred in close to ten one-act plays, won a student award for Best Director of a One-Act Play.
-Performed in the City-Wide Youth Poetry Slam, whose pool of 12 is drawn from over 100 competitors.
-Had a cutting from a play I wrote performed at a local Young Playwright Festival.
-Over the summer I will be doing an internship with a biomedical research facility leading the quest to solve global health issues such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

Journalism ECs
-Executive Editor of a prestigious school paper that has won many national awards in the past years (hopefully it will continue to under my leadership).
-Won a regional (3 states) Journalism Awards Competition for a piece I wrote while on the paper's writing staff (should I enclose this article as supplementary materials?).
-150-200+ hours volunteering for a youth-focused political advocacy group aimed at getting young people involved in Politics. Over the summer I will be working for them as one of seven journalists of varying ages from my city's community writing pieces for a startup blog they're running.

Community Service
-80+ hours setting up and working at my high school's PTSA auction, as well as the auctions of other local schools.

Job Experience
-Freelance Arts writer for a local parent's magazine
-Ski Instructor

Other:
-I'm expecting my essays to be really good, as writing is one of my strongest facets
-The teacher doing one of my recs has a history of writing insanely good letters.
-Hooks: still not sure if I know exactly what a hook is, but I'm hoping on the fact that I've been very focused on the field of journalism. I'm hoping to talk at some point in my application that I don't seek to pursue it in my undergraduate education, however (hopefully grad school).

Your class rank is going to be pretty detrimental. The fact that a 3.9 is ranked 50 in the grade implies that your school is pretty easy. What kind of school do you go to?

It’s an urban public school, where 1/3 of the students are fed from an advanced placement program and the rest are from the relatively low-income area the school is located in. I’m not from the advanced placement program but I went to an alternative K-8 school with similar academics.

Another issue contributing to my class rank is that I started two years behind many students who came from this advanced program in Mathematics, so about 30-40 of them have had the chance to take 1 or 2 more APs than I possibly could have.

Hmmm. I guess that will be up to the colleges to read your school’s profile and determine how that works. I have no idea since I don’t know enough about your school.

But at this point, with the limited knowledge I have, it looks as if your rank could hurt you.
