Chances at BS/MD and other top-tier universities?

Hi everyone,

I’m a junior in high school right now and I am aiming to apply to Brown PLME, PSU BS/MD program, RPI Physician-Scientist program, and Pitt BS/MD, among others. I’m not considering many BS/MD away from the east coast since I don’t want to travel too far away from home. My top choice is Brown, so I am looking for advice on how to improve my application because I know it is extremely hard to get in.

Stats:
Class Rank: 12/650 (top 1 - 2%)
UW GPA: 95% (out of 100%; we don’t use the 4.0 scale)
W GPA: 106%

old SAT: 2160; 750 W, 730 R, 680 M
new SAT: taking in June
ACT: taking in June
SAT Subject tests: taking Math II, Chem, and Physics in June
PSAT: 1470; 720 M 750 R/W (I don’t know if this even matters?)

Past APs: World History (4), Biology (4), Calculus AB (4), Human Geography (4) (all other classes were honors or IB)

Current APs: Calculus BC, Chemistry, Computer Science, English Language and Composition, Physics 1: Algebra Based, US History

Senior Year APs: Economics, Statistics, English Literature and Composition, Physics C, Spanish Language
(additional: Honors Biochemistry and Honors Calculus III)

Awards/Honors:
-AP Scholar with Honor award
-Top Ten in Regional Brain Bee competition for two years in a row
-Honors Student designation at local medical college for high final test score
-Academic Worldquest Competition - received second place at Regionals
-Outstanding Student Award from Elks Society
-Prudential Spirit of Community Volunteering Award – Local Honoree
-Language Honors Society for my high school (sadly, juniors can’t get into NHS until senior year at my school :/)
-Girl Scout Silver Award (working toward Gold Award)
-First Tech Challenge: Robotics Competition - won multiple awards at Regionals and moved on to States every year
-Technology Student Association - Won first place in Computer Systems Troubleshooting event and second place in Technology Bowl event; qualified for States (in April)
-Science Olympiad – Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, Disease Detectives, and Write It Do It competitions
-Junior Commissioner youth representative for my township

Extracurriculars:
-Key Club Treasurer
-Student Council Treasurer
-FTC Robotics Team
-Starting Robotics Club for students at my school to promote STEM and teach them about programming, building, engineering principles, etc…completely run by girls
-TSA
-Science Olympiad
-Accepted into Junior Leadership program with 30 other students in my region
-Girl Scouts
-Regional Youth Orchestra for viola
-Jazz Band (piano)
-Bharatnatyam (traditional Indian dance)
-Volunteering at rabbit shelter / rabbit foster care

Medical Experience:
-Neuroscience Internship at well-known medical college/hospital (name would give away my location…)
-Took a college neuroscience course and wrote proposals for Parkinson’s disease experiments as a result of finishing in top ten for Brain Bee competition. Parkinson’s disease experiments consisted of testing correlation between iron levels in zebrafish and alphasynuclein buildup, NpHR staining in rat brains, and fluorescent protein microscopy of zebrafish. Attended medical school journal club to discuss recent developments in Parkinson’s disease research.
-150+ hours volunteering at local hospitals
-Accepted into Perry Initiative program for girls about biomedical engineering and orthopaedic surgery (this April)
-Accepted into same medical college/hospital’s medical program for high schoolers - received Honors status for getting 90+% on final exam
-Job shadowing at medical college in Gross Pathology/Cytology, Oculoplasty, Optometry, and Radiology
-Attended lectures at medical college on oncology, ophthalmology, and radiology

I want to major in Computer Science in PLME, but I know it’s a huge stretch to even be considered for the program since my stats aren’t that great. I’m really hoping that my ACT and new SAT scores will be better than my old SAT score.

Additionally, I am aiming at UPenn, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, and Duke once I improve my scores. My father and grandfather also attended and taught at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, so I am also going to apply to their BS/MD program.

Any advice on how to improve my application for these top-tier programs would be appreciated. Thank you!

Your background and experience looks good. However your scores need to be higher esp for Brown.

Thanks, I definitely need to work on that.
