Chances at BU (Boston University) as a Transfer

<p>I'm currently a Sophomore and I plan to apply to transfer Spring 11. I just transferred to this school this semester but I already want to leave. Honestly, the social life is not good here and I feel that going to BU would be a better path for my education. (I plan to go there for my Masters and they have a BS/MSOT program that I am very interested in)</p>

<p>I'm going to be honest. I did not do so well in school. My GPA in high school was a 2.7 and I went to a really prestigious and super competitive school. My GPA in college is a 3.2 ... I had a 3.6 the first semester so I pretty much screwed up my second semester. My best SAT score is 1770 & my ACT score is 27.</p>

<p>I am very involved in extracurricular. In high school, I was part of multiple clubs. I was Vice President of one club and held an officer position in another. I was also a Class Rep and did a lot of volunteering in school. In college, I am now involved in a couple of clubs... no officer positions. Most of my clubs are volunteer clubs (best buddies, big brother & sister).</p>

<p>I know my chance is probably very slim. Should I even bother applying at all?</p>

<p>Transfer Lady, do you know if BU gives similar financial aid to transfer students as they do for incoming freshman? </p>

<p>I am applying to transfer next fall from a community college (in california, could this help me?) I will be applying as a junior, have a 4.0 in college, am a student athlete on the baseball team, and have also had a job my entire time in college as an office worker and a youth sports coach. Also I can definitely get a strong letter of rec from one of my professors. In high school my weighted GPA was a 3.75 and I got a 1930 on the SAT. </p>

<p>I am not too worried about getting accepted, but I need some serious aid. My family has a fairly decent income, but not nearly enough to pay for an expensive school like BU. Do I have a chance at getting 20 to 30k in grants/scholarships?</p>

but may i suggest applying for the fall. I believe they take more
people for the fall anyway so you might have a stronger shot.</p>

<p>My friend had an EFC of 0 and she got in as a transfer. The school gave her ZERO grants and just loans.</p>

<p>dnk24, I was admitted last year, but the tuition was too ridiculous to make the decision to go. I made the trip from California to see what they could do for me, and was told that nothing was available. <p>collegex100, I’d say you have a shot, but you sound like you already know you might be below the level that BU considers competitive. That’s not a deal breaker; I should know. My H.S. gpa was around your’s, 2.8 at academically rigorous school, and my SATs were not impressive, but my college gpa was a 3.8 when I applied from a cc… Retake your SAT, if you can, or talk it out with counselor about submitting them since you might not need to depending on your stats. The personal essays and supplement are really important in swaying their decision, so make sure you explain why you want to go there. If you want to go to BU, apply to BU. I don’t prognosticate if that’s going to talk yourself out from doing something. Best of luck and work on the gpa while you still have time.</p>
