I really did not do well my Junior year (3.2 each semester)because of my high involvement in speech..preparing for state championships and being involved in ASB, etc. Working at the hospital also was probably a reason for my grades slipping but I am resolute on getting a 4.0 this year so let me know if me sort of redeeming myself this year will make any difference.

Thanks any advice is appreciated!!!!

bumppppp!!!!!

last one- bumpppp!

Based on what I know about speech & debate, and about your list of colleges:

USC: Slight Reach/Match
NYU: Match
Syracuse: Match
Cornell University: Slight Reach
Occidental College: Match
Boston University: Match/Safety
UCB: Slight Reach (your GPA, ouch! and test scores)
UCLA: Slight Reach (your GPA, ouch! and test scores)
UCSD: Match
UCI: Safety
UCD: Safety
Virginia Commonwealth University: I don't know enough
Loyola Marymount University: I don't know enough

match match match match!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! super impressive ECs man u are IN! c u at cornell

really match for cornell?? i highly doubt it with my gpa...but thanks anyone else????

I don't want to be the one to stray, but I think Cornell is a slight reach. The gpa is a bit low, and so is the ACT. Your ecs are fantastic, no-doubt, but I would still only give you like a 55% at Cornell. All the other ones are looking good.

I would say Cornell is a reach unless you get a 30+ ACT

Your EC's are outstanding! You just need to get a little higher on the GPA, and ACT, and I'd say you have a chance in every school.

If you can do so well in speech and debate, you can definitely do better on your ACTs! Good luck:)

So you think i'll be good if i pull off a 4.0 this semester and a 30+??
thanks! more input is always good!

btw i'm planning on majoring in something pre-med related..so do you think pyschology would be a good major to put down which might be less impacted then bio or chem and maybe improve my chances a bit more for all these schools?

If you are desperate, then yes. But your stats are not really that bad especially you have a lot of medical oriented ECs. I don't think it would really matters if you put down bio or chem, unless you are applying to UCB. they have such a highly ranked chem school that it would really be difficult to get in with your GPA.
Hopefully you did well on your SATIIs, cause that's going to help, especially with UCs.

btw in what event did you get second place in at state? just curious.

UCLA/Cal: Reach
USC: Slight Reach/Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI/UCD: Match
UCSB: Safety/Safe Match

UCs are a numbers driven school, however you do have impressive ECs. How the adcoms perceive your ECs will ultimately decide your fate, so write fantastic essays (and I mean fantastic).

yeah i am working really hard on those essay's...USC is actually my top choice so if any of you go there...any advice would be great!

kitkatz, I placed in Oratorical Interp. Do you do speech??

appreciate the help guys, more would be awesome! thanks.

Ummm....some of these guys seem to forget that for most schools GPA and TEST SCORES are the most important factors.....even if you have steller EC's, your GPA and TEST SCORES bring you down a lot... Cornell as an Ivy is def. a reach for anyone even with better stats than you(No offense). NYU is also a reach....considering the average ACT of NYU is 29~31 and that of Cornell is even higher, you have a slight chance in getting accepted in those schools....People that just give you false hope are useless. Get the right facts. Good luck

bump. more advice please?

I gotta finalize this by the end of this week!! please give me some straight up comments on what you really think! please and thank you!
