Chances at Bucknell

Hi i'm a high school junior, my parents and i are thinking about colleges...
I have a 3.82 gpa unweighted (4.0 something weighted) and take a lot of AP classes...5 so far, I'll have a total or 8 or 9 by the end of my HS career (passed 2/2 tests in sophomore year with 5s)

My projected ACT score is in the 30s
My PSAT was a 1400

Extracirricular activities aren't too many...and I'm not sure where employment comes in and such...

In ninth grade I was in traveling basketball
I ran track
Piano, passed a theory and playing test put on by an organization

10th grade
I was a referee for childrens basketball games (paid)
I ran track
piano, passed a few more tests, recitals, etc.

11th grade
worked briefly for four months at the beginning of the year
piano, passed exams
referee for basketball games
[will] run track and i will letter...i had the time just not the points sophomore year (i go to a big school)
Volunteer work at hospital and some other places

12th probably a continuation, not that it matters

Note: Both my parents attended Bucknell, and my Mom's dad attended, as well as my Dad's mom...haha

chances? worried about my ECs

you should definately get into Bucknell. They really like alumni...like most schools, and your test scores look great. (was a 1400 national merit or national commended?) If you are the least bit worried, show interest. Email the school about classes you would be interested in, call about general questions, have an interview, talk to students. I think you will be set but if you are nervous and really want to ensure your acceptance all that stuff about could really give you an extra point or two on the application. Would you be applying Early Decision or Regular Decision? I applied ED II and they told me the acceptance rate is much higher than the 10,000 applications they receive for the 900 spots for regular decision.

ECs are fine?

You will 100% get in.

it sure is nice to have two legacies and another generation of em

my class rank is in the top...17%

Might also want to look at Colgate and Holy Cross-both similar to Bucknell. Of the three Holy Cross - 1 hour from Boston has best location.

I could get in Colgate...?

Yes. You can aim higher than bucknell. One of my brothers got in with a 3.4 1360 average ECs, and he was typical of the accepted candidate. You are Hamilton, Colby, Bates, Colgate range.

Oh wow...I've been looking at bigger universities, I thought bucknell would be a reach, i just wanted to see if my legacies would help. Are my ECs average? What are my chances at Tulane, Boston U, Miami, Syracuse, Sewanee, NYU?

bump---------

Dude, you're a junior...relax, you still got some time

I know, just wondering if im doing what i need to do to get where i want ;)

Try to bump the ECs, you will get into all on your list easily, with the excepetion of NYU (but I think you have a solid shot there as well). I think you could even try ED for a place like Cornell, Emory, or Northwestern, you have a decent shot ED. I also recommend looking at UNC and UVA as these are very stats driven schools.

Not sure if i understand, do i need to boost ECs to get into my list, or to get into more prestigious schools...? my ECs are really average... i go to a huge school, its hard to obtain leadership spots...or even make ONE varsity sport...thanks, I just hope that i can get in to the schools on my list...Emory would be amazing, same with Cornell...We'll see though, i think that's too optimistic ;) UVA would be nice
