Chances at CalTech as a Humanities Major?

Hi everyone,

I have recently applied to Caltech with a proposed major of Philosophy, not because it is an unpopular major, but because I am truly passionate about this subject. I understand that Caltech is not an institution traditionally known to have many individuals majoring in the humanities, and I was wondering what chances I may have (if at all) of possible acceptance?

GPA weighted: 3.92 unfortunately.
GPA unweighted: 3.69.
SAT: 750 (CR), 740 (M), 800 (W)
SAT II: 800 (Math IIc), 770 (Bio-E)
I have over 130 hours of community service and have won numerous district and state debate awards. My essays were decent, and I expect my letters of recommendation to be fairly good. Oh, and I am an Asian female.

Thank you for taking the time to read all that.

If you don’t mind : Why caltech? Not bad stats but don’t you want a university with a well known humanities program? Are you going to Caltech because of the name? If so, my advice dont. But if thats what you want to do … these aren’t too bad but not amazing :)

Thanks for the quick reply!

I suppose my reasoning for applying is rather convoluted. When I aspired to major in the sciences, I visited the campus and absolutely fell in love with it (the small class sizes, world-class faculty, interesting students etc). Though my proposed field of study has changed significantly since then, the love I felt for Caltech as an institution still remain. (Haha, not a particularly convincing reason huh?)
